Without clenching to a specific sub-genre of rock, Sedna have been known for relentlessly capturing the audience with an energetic and exciting performance. Driven by kick-ass beats and funky, aggressive rhythm, the Dallas trio sets higher goals each year as they strive to become one of the most reputable rock bands in your iPod. If you like metal, alternative, punk, emo, post-hardcore, or anything else rock-related, you will hear all of these influences in Sedna’s music.
The band is led by singer and guitarist, Shawn Dawson, bassist, Chase Nix, and drummer, Josh Thornton. Shawn and Josh have been jamming together since they were 15, playing with their old band at churches, fundraisers, birthday parties, coffee houses, and recreation centers in front of peers in their hometown of Garland, Texas. In 2002 at age 18, Chase joined, which resulted in an entirely different sound that deserved a new name: Sedna.
Sedna became a part of the scene in 2003 while trying to find their comfort zone on stage as only a 3-piece band. In their first season, they won 2 battles at Hard Rock Café and Dreamworld Music Complex. Since then, they have played large festivals and parties in front of thousands of people, including The Dallas Music Festival, FattyFest, AmpiFest, The Dallas Guitar Show, The Scorpions Motorcycle Club, and airtime 102.1 The Edge’s Local Show.
In the summer of 2006, Sedna signed up with Strong Arm Entertainment and Modern Rock Music Group, giving them the opportunity to play alongside tons of other great regional acts. On September 23rd, the band released their first full-length release, The Entropy Report. The first track of the album was played during morning rush-hour in October, 2006 on The Lex & Terry Show, a nationally syndicated morning radio program. While this show is notorious for rejecting most submitted material by parting ways through a paper shredder, Sedna was warmly accepted by the judges. Copies of The Entropy Report are available at all shows for only $5.00. Next time you see Sedna, pick one up!
