It started, um, I dunno, 7 years ago, maybe 9? It used to be a bunch of people, now it's a bunch of different people. There were lots of iterations and forms inbetween then and now, too, all of which included different people. We're all about people.
This beautiful super-heavyweight LP, which comes packaged in a sweet full-colour sleeve reunites the UK's premier free drummer Alex Neilson, who's played, amongst others, with Motor Ghost, Directing Hand, Trembling Bells, Tight Meat Duo, Josephine Foster, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Jandek, MV&EE, Richard Youngs, Baby Dee and Alastair Galbraith, with Nmperign member Greg Kelley, whose reinvention of the trumpet is as crucial now as Anthony Braxton's reinvention of the sax was 30 years ago. A screeching, soaring, scattergun array of noises come maniacally out of Greg's horn, unlike anything we've ever heard and, with the addition of random stabs of electronics, he successfully straddles no wave, concrete and free jazz in a way that makes those genres seem like trite pigeonholes.
My drummer (Will Ong) was in the hospital from 7-28 to 8-08 with organized pneumonia, and chronic influencea & boop.
He has tiny holes in his lungs traping air in his chest, throat and sometimes shoulder blades. He had a lung byopsy almost three weeks ago that didn't help with the diagnosis. He also had a chest tube in him for a week along with a bronchoscopy. He eneded up leaving with 3 staples and 12 stitches in on his side along with a nice hole from the chest tube. He is currently home on an oxygen machine for 2 months. The doctors don't know if these holes in his lungs will seal up or if the infection will return so It might be longer.
There are a couple of benefit shows coming up to help Will pay for his $72,000 and rising hospital bill. On top of the several doctors I need to see in the next few weeks. One of hese shows is 9-12-08 @ the High Five.
If u could come out or help promote this benfit show and support a great drummer, musician and friend.
