The magical qualities in different musical sounds makes me really happy
Pretty much loved music ever since forever mostly thanks to my mama who would quiz me on her old funk, soul and disco records rewarding me with gift of musical knowledge and/or 25 cents per correct answer. I stay grounded through "doing" music, be it talking about the sociocultural context it was created in, the sounds of it, and especially the way it makes people feel.
I've been known to shed a tear while hearing a beautiful composition.
Growing up in the laid back San Diego area I have always found the musical qualities in different sounds enlightening and inspiring. I started my musical journey on the drums when I was 13 and continued to connect my rooted need for percussion in my life following in my dad and uncle's footsteps on the drums. I've been really influenced by early 90’s hip hop and rNb, jaz, Latin jaz & percussion, 70's + 80's rare-grooves, deep house ,soul, punk, ska and reggae. Drums are my first love but I love to get down on the mic and sing really anything jazzy.
Born in San Diego, planted in San Francisco and next who knows!
The branches have started extending and I've been blessed with the opportunity to be involved with the forward thinking radio show described below..check it out..
iLLFonix Radio is a movement, a descendant of mother JAZZ that spills into genres of Soul, Hip-Hop, House & Spoken word! iLLFonix is the place to be where Jazz legends cross paths with hip-hop scribes. Using the turntable as an instrument, tune in for the best culturally mixed event broadcasting on air for 6+ years in San Diego...
