These are some of the things we've been focussing on over the past years:
The first edition (1993) was dedicated to filmmakers from Eastern Europe, as testimony of the psychological and cultural climate in those countries after the collapse of the Berlin Wall.
The second edition (1994) presented the work of filmmakers from the Mediterranean area.
The third edition (1995) examined Northern European productions and presented a retrospective on Mai Zetterling.
The fourth edition (1996), held on the centenary of cinema’s invention, hosted filmmakers from all over the world. It introduced the Italian public to Marleen Gorris, who would later that year win an Oscar with her film Antonia’s Line.
The fifth edition (1997), entitled The Age of Celebration, looked at the world of adolescence.
The theme of the sixth edition (1998) was female alienation, in social, religious and psychological terms.
The seventh edition (2000) gave prominence to young filmmakers, who were in some cases presenting their first film. This edition focussed particularly on the Middle Eastern region, to highlight the contradictions and changes taking place in those societies. Premieres included Do Zan by Tahmineh Milani.
The theme of the eighth edition (2001) was reassessment of roots, a source of energy, hope and new and bold journeys. Premieres included Capitães de Abril by Maria de Medeiros and La Saison des Hommes by Mufida Tatli.
The ninth edition (2002) focussed on the cinema of “metissage”, presenting Sous les Pieds des Femmes by Rachida Krim, L’Autre Cot.. de la Mer by Dominique Cabrera and Le Jardin Parfum.. by Yamine Benguigui among others. Premieres included The Hidden Half by Iranian director Tahmineh Milani, who was arrested in her country because of her film.
The tenth edition (2003) centred on the issues of nomadism, exile, and physical and spiritual journeys. Premieres included Buyuk Adam Kusuk Ask (Big Man, Small Love) by Handan Ipecki. This year saw the first editions of the award for Italian directors sguardi (s)confinati (boundless visions) and of the award for directors from the Lombardy region lo sguardo delle donne (women’s visions). The section Frontiers of Dreams and Fears included films and documentaries by Palestinian and Israeli directors.
The eleventh edition (2004) continued with the analysis of trans-European stories, images and intersections. The festival launched the first edition of nuovi sguardi (new visions), international award for European directors. Premieres included Endstation: Tanke by Nathalie Steinbart.
The twelfth edition (2005)
The thirteenth edition (2006)
The fourteenth edition (2007) focussed on the issue of the body, defined as an encounter between form and content, nature and culture, economics and society, psychology and meaning. A new feature of this edition was the inclusion of films by male directors, admitted to various section of the programme, except for the competitive ones, which are still restricted to women. The festival included a tribute to Indian women’s creativity; ‘Sguardi Incrociati. Corpi desnudi’ (‘Cross Visions – Naked bodies’), a non-competitive section focusing on the evolution from objectified bodies to virtual bodies; the non-competitive section ‘Le Donne Raccontano’ (Women Telling Stories) dedicated to international and Italian documentaries. The festival also offered a series of cultural events of international significance on the theme of the body, which encompassed other artistic languages and provided an opportunity to promote female creativity tout court. Premiers included Das Fraulein by Andrea Staka, winner of the nuovi sguardi award.

About me:
Sguardi Altrove Film Festival's mission is the research and promotion of films by women, many of which are presented for the first time in Italy.
The festival's aim is to encourage a reflection on topics relevant to women, articulated in their specific cultural, political and social context. Sguardi Altrove has always been exploring work from different countries and cultures, promoting in particular the circulation of films that are less likely to have access to commercial venues. The festival has succeeded over the years in winning over a diverse public as well as the national and international press.

On November 30th, 2007 the film "Badland" written and directed by Francesco Lucente, produced by Olimpia Lucente and Jorg G. Neumann will open in theaters in Los Angeles (Laemmle Sunset 5) and also in New York City (AMC Empire 25). It will roll out nationwide through December and January.
I am very proud of my score which I composed and recorded last year with the Hungarian National Symphony in Budapest. As a part of the score, you will also have a chance to hear the amazing virtuoso soloists; violinist Jamie Desautels, Mezzo Soprano Giancarla Tissera, and Soprano Olimpia Lucente. Other artists who kindly contributed songs to the film are Bruce Springsteen, Ray LaMontagne and Joe Morton.
This COPEX presentation drama stars Jamie Draven, Grace Fulton, Vinessa Shaw, Chandra West and Joe Morton.
I am happy that I had the opportunity to work on such an important and relevant film. We hope to see you there on the 30th of November.
