"There are all kinds of silences and each of them means a different thing. There is the silence that comes with morning in a forest, and this is different from the silence of a sleeping city. There is silence after a rainstorm, and before a rainstorm, and these are not the same. There is the silence of emptiness, the silence of fear, the silence of doubt. There is a certain silence that can emanate from a lifeless object as from a chair lately used, or from a piano with old dust upon its keys, or from anything that has answered to the need of a man, for pleasure or for work. This kind of silence can speak. Its voice may be melancholy, but it is not always so; for the chair may have been left by a laughing child or the last notes of the piano may have been raucous and gay. Whatever the mood or the circumstance, the essence of its quality may linger in the silence that follows. It is a soundless echo."

    No worries!

    I think I'd definitely recommend Thompson to anyone; at least to try out. He writes in a very fast-paced, 'matter-of-fact', almost 'fidgety' manner. There is a lot of drug use, and other such activities throughout his novels, but its in this (like i said previously) 'matter-of-fact' way that doesn't try to put a ton of emphasis upon the drug use itself to come off as "edgy" or somethign (think, "Go Ask Alice" or "Crank"--definitely not my favorite books. hah.
    :P )

    He's definitely unique, at the least.

    I didn't hear about the Eugene situation; that definitely sucks.

    And yeah, we're both going to PSU. I would say "coincidence" (since both of us decided upon it before meeting eachother), but it seems like everyone's going there this year, so i don't even feel justified using that word, haha.

    The novel's definitely pretty interesting. I think if he continues writing it as well as he has been, that it definitely has a large chance at getting published. But I'm not too awfully sure that it'd appeal to a majority of people (but then again, that's much alike to Thomspon.
    )

    What's new in Sabrina-land? :)
  • Mar 16 2009 5:38 AM

  • Mar 16 2009 5:37 AM

    I know how you feel...I got the flu right before finals week and I was already behind.
    This is bad lol
  • Mar 16 2009 5:32 AM

    haha, yeah. i try to hold the sarcasm in, but sometimes.....

    anyway, have to admit, i tried reading twilight (after all, the last book with that much buzz was harry potter--and I rather liked that series!) but i just couldn't do it.
    I got to the part that goes a little bit like;

    "you're.....a vampire?...you...sparkle?"
    "yes...i'm ashamed of it.
    "
    "don't be...it's....beautiful"
    "is it?"
    "yes..i....love you.
    "
    "I love you too, YOU ARE MY LIFE NOW"

    maybe i'm too closeminded, or just too realistic, but I literally had to set the book down after that.
    :P

    i gave the book to max after that though, and he seemed to enjoy it?
