My name is Shahar Mintz. I'm 35 years old and I've been playing guitar for 25 years. Back in my home land, Israel, I studied classical guitar for five years before moving on to explore the theory of Jazz and modern music. At the age of 19, I was accepted to the Rimon school of Jazz And Contemporary Music. After two years of college I moved to Tel-Aviv and took part in various projects of different musical styles: A joint Jewish-Arabic ensemble that worked towards bringing the two nations together; Tony Ray, a top local Reggae act; and numerous Rock bands. I was also a member of the band Hadag Nachash. In 1998 I moved to New York City and when I first got here I joined the local Funk act Milo-Z. I played with Milo for two and a half years, touring mostly the east coast and Europe. While in Europe we had the honor of playing with bands such as The Water Boys, Massive Attack and Patti Smith. I spent the summer of 2002 playing with D.J's on the endless party island of Ibiza. In 2003 I acted as band leader and lead guitar player for Warner Bros. recording artist Lizzie West. We spent a year on the road touring 45 states, sharing the stage with artists such as Chris Isaac, The Neville Brothers, Jesse Harris, Berlin and Twine men (ex Morphine). In 2004 I recorded an E.P with the singer Rebbeca Fania. Rebbeca has recorded and toured with artists such as Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte, Ani Difranco and many more. I played a guitar solo on the song Paper Airplanes which was featured on the compilation C.D: For The Lady. A benefit project , put together for raising public awareness of the imprisoned ex president of Burma. Other artists which contributed songs for this project were Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, U-2, Pearl Jam and many more. In the past 4 years I've been focusing on three New York bands: Mahavatar, Actualities and Meta &The Cornerstones. With Meta, a great Reggae singer from Senegal, we toured Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana last winter. I was the lead guitarist of a house band that was formed to play for three different acts on that tour. the main act was Clinton Fearon, the legendary bass player, singer and writer of the influential Reggae masters The Gladiators. This year we took part in a special memorial evening for the late South African Reggae star, Lucky Dube. We shared the stage with Sister Carol and The New Kingston band. Also, we had the honor of playing with Senegal's biggest star Youssou N'dour, for two nights at NYC's Nokia Theater in Times Square. With Mahavatar I played in one of Europe's biggest outdoor festivals last summer. It's called Woodstock of Poland and we played in front of 200,000 people. This winter we go back to Europe as a part of Metalfilia 2007, a 12 city tour of Poland, sharing the stage with bands from Japan, Mexico, Poland and Russia. With Actualities, we're about to complete our second studio album. The band plays mostly the Rock scene of NYC's Lower East Side and was a part of this year's CMJ festival. In the past two years, on top of all the work I do as a guitar player, I got into music production and created a home studio. At home I work on various tracks of different musical styles, ranging from Funk, Hip-Hop and R'n'B to Rock, Ambient and electronic music. In the past two years I've been employed by Siblings Music Group. Working close with Mario Grigorov the C.E.O and main composer of Siblings, we co-wrote and composed commercials for Dr. Pepper, HSBC, Black&Decker, JC Penny,Toyota and Nexium among others. Also, Mario and I composed the entire soundtrack for the feature film "Tennessee" staring Mariah Carey. The film debuted on this year's Tribeca film Festival.
