Shaman was formed in 2000, when Ricardo Confessori left Angra and started a new band: Shaman.
Shaman means "the one that can see in the dark", and it is represented, in general, by the priests that can heal using elements of the nature.
Mixing heavy metal, classical music and world music, the band recorded its debut album, Ritual,in the beginning of 2002. The album was recorded in Germany, except for some parts recorded in Brazil , and was produced by the famous Sascha Paeth(Heaven..s Gate, Rapsody).
Ritual had good reviews by the Brazilian press and all around the world, being released in more than 15 countries. The World Ritual Tour lasted for over a year and a half, crossing Brazil and many other countries in Latin America, Europe and Asia. More than 150 shows were played, an excellent mark for a debut album tour.
In 2003, Shaman had a good position in the specialized media charts, anda great surprise came when Ritual was elected the best (not only heavy metal) album of 2002 by Folha de Sao Paulo (a very well-known and respected Brazilian daily newspaper) readers. The same accomplishment was repeated in 2004. Still in 2004, the band was the opening act for Iron Maiden at the Pacaembu stadium in São Paulo, for an audience of approximately 45.000 people.
To celebrate the huge success, the band decided to register a special live show on DVD. The concert was sold out in Credicard Hall , São Paulo, with fans and friends, filling the stage with special guests like Tobias Sammet, Sascha Paeth, Marcus Viana and George Mouzayek, Andi Deris and Michael Weikath. The release of RituAlive, in CD and DVD, got great reviews and sales too. According to Universal Music of Brasil , RituAlive is the best DVD of the genre released in Brazil, due to the content and the quality.
In 2005, with the second studio album practically finished and ready to be released, the name of the band was changed. The band decided to add an ‘A’ to it, so the new name became Shaaman.
On the following months, Reason, the second studio release, reached the stores. The album was recorded in Brazil , produced by the very same Sacha Paeth, who stated that “Reason was the rescue of all heaviness, feeling and heavy-metal spirit of the 80s” and that “while Ritual favored the undeniable and exceptional skills of the musicians, Reason opened up space for their hearts and souls”. The music was more organic, and helped to highlight the contrast between heavy guitars, classic keyboards and world music elements.
After the Reason Tour, that lasted one year, some misunderstandings caused the departure of 3 members, and their abandon of the band opened up space to Thiago Bianchi, Léo Mancini and Fernando Quesada.
Now, in 2007, these new members, together with Ricardo Confessori, are on the final stages of recording and mixing the new album, that

Shaman significa "aquele que enxerga no escuro", é representado de maneira geral pelos sacerdotes que curam através dos elementos da natureza.
Com uma mistura de heavy metal, música clássica e world music, no inicio do ano de 2002 a banda deu início às gravações de seu primeiro álbum: “RITUAL”:
O disco foi gravado na Alemanha, com exceção de algumas partes que foram registradas no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos, sob produção do renomado Sascha Paeth
Ritual foi muito bem recebido no Brasil e em todo mundo, sendo lançado em mais de 15 países. A World Ritual Tour durou um ano e meio, passando por todo o Brasil, além de diversos lugares na América Latina, Europa e Ásia.. Foram cerca de 150 shows, uma excelente marca pra um disco de estréia.
Já em 2003, o Shaman esteve nos primeiros lugares das votações da mídia especializada, e a grande surpresa foi ter Ritual eleito como o melhor disco de música (e não só de heavy metal) de 2002 pelos leitores da Folha de São Paulo. Fato que se repetiria em 2004. Ainda neste ano a banda abriu o show do Iron Maiden no estádio do Pacaembú, em São Paulo. para aproximadamente 45.000 pessoas.
Como resultado de tanto sucesso a banda então registrou um show ao vivo no Credicard Hall, em São Paulo, com várias participações especiais:Tobias Sammet, Sascha Paeth, Marcus Viana e George Mouzayek, Andi Deris e Michael Weikath. O lançamento de “RituAlive”, em CD e DVD, recebeu ótimas críticas e teve muito boa vendagem. Segundo a direção da Universal Music do Brasil, RituAlive é o melhor DVD do gênero lançado no país devido à qualidade e conteúdo.
Em 2005, com o segundo álbum de estúdio praticamente finalizado e pronto para o lançamento, foi anunciada uma mudança no nome. A banda decide acrescentar um A em seu nome, passando a se chamar Shaaman.
Nos meses seguintes chega às lojas o álbum Reason. Com uma "pegada mais direta". Dessa vez o disco gravado no Brasil pelo mesmo produtor do primeiro disco, Sascha Paeth, que diz que “Reason é o resgate de todo o peso, feeling e espírito do heavy-metal dos anos 80” e que “enquanto Ritual privilegiava a inegável virtuose dos músicos, Reason abriu espaço para a alma e o coração da banda”. A música ficou mais orgânica, o que ajudou a evidenciar o contraste entre guitarras pesadas, teclados classicos e elementos de world music.
Após a Reason tour, que durou mais um ano, alguns desentendimentos fizeram com que três dos ex-membros da banda a abandonassem e dessem lugar a Thiago Bianchi, Léo Mancini e Fernando Quesada.
Agora em 2007, a banda finaliza seu ultimo album, "Immortal" que estara nas lojas na primiera semana de setembro!
