ShankarBabaa, or ShankarBaba, is Shankar Barua ~ an infinitely ancient and wise ole man based in India, between New Delhi and the Lower Himalayan valley known as Sattal.
He used to be a freelance bass-guitarist and solo bluesman in the mid-1970's, during which time he played everything from hard-rock shows through to cabaret.
He got back into making music in the mid-1990s, primarily so as to pass music on to his son, Bacchus Barua, who is now a full-fledged musician, between slogging through college. Bacchus' first CD-album came out February 2008, under the title, "The Bacchanal............ of Bacchus Barua".
And, Shankar too has got quite a bit back into music, between madness such as organizing CeC & CaC, and networking all sorts of e-Creative Practitioners all over the world on a continuing basis.
Most of his musicworks over the past few years have been sequenced with a stylus on a hand-held Roland PMA-5, with feet up in his spare time,.. generally in the mountains. Some works also include guitar dubbed in on a Yamaha MD-4s. The Ganesa Mantra and Navagraha Mantra on this page are the only 'recent' pieces on which he has worked with voice.
Although he does not push his music as a primary preoccupation, some of Shankar's compositions have nevertheless been used in several art-videos and media festivals, as well as by a top dance-studio in the EU!
Meanwhile, his focus as a musician has lately been somewhat lost in learning to work with electroacoutics in Pure Data.
Shankar's last public performance thus far was in CeC & CaC 2007, at India International Centre in Delhi, where he held the audience for 48 minutes with a homemade guitar, a homemade midi-controller, and a homemade Pd patch that he called "Ugly & Unweildy". And of course, some part of that 48 minutes was actually taken up by his babble about it all~:o)
Shankar is presently unable to fully operate this account in MySpace, as the email ID that he registered with has madly not been receiving emails for awhile (yes, it's a government-provided service attached with his landline-phone and broadband account). As such, he has so far been unable to receive and then deploy the "confirmation-code" so as to have access to all services,... or at least so as to be able to change the email address that he has registered with MySpace!!
But, he did manage to edit this profile with the Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
