  • Bio

Sherele was born as a quartet in April, 2007, initiated by clarinetist Nathalie Braux. Based in Guadalajara, Mexico, Sherele is an ensemble bringing together musicians from France, Mexico and Argentina. Sherele plays Klezmer repertoire, along with original pieces. Its interpretations incorporate many original elements, granting unusual force to its performances. Sherele blends Jazz, Central and South American Folklore, and rock influences into the Klezmer tradition. Faithful to klezmorim (klezmer musicians) customs, they absorb, modify and communicate new melodies and rhythms. Sherele plays klezmer in a fresh and contemporary way. “Oy Mame Shein –Pickles, Chiles and Jrein” is the title of Sherele’s first album. It was released in Mexico in January 2009 and the band is now celebrating the inclusion of “Polka Dot Blues“ (Nathalie Braux), one of the tracks in this album, on the Putumayo World Music compilation “Jazz Around the World“, released in November 2009. Sherele transmits this ancestral musical tradition ranging from nostalgia to festivity, from spiritual chants to humour, and does it enthusiastically, endearingly, and with total commitment to the music. Sherele plays a Jewish repertoire in a Catholic society. The members have been pleasantly surprised to witness the growing popularity of its music among people of all ages and conditions, proving that Klezmer is popular in the wider sense, that is, universal music. You are invited to a world of music, festivity and openness. .......... OUR CD IS OUT AND FOR SALE ON CD BABY. YOU CAN BUY THE CD OR THE MP3 ALBUM BY CLICKING ON THE BUTTON ABOVE. Sherele es un cuarteto integrado por músicos de geografías y culturas diversas. La experiencia de vivir en el extranjero, de afrontar otras culturas y cuestionar y añorar la tierra propia sumado a la adquisición de formas musicales de distintos países, son elementos vivénciales y musicales que nutren su interpretación del género. El cuarteto Sherele toma temas del repertorio klezmer y los arregla incorporando elementos de jazz, rock, tango, folklore argentino y mexicano, a una interpretación cercana a la tradición. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Sherele is a quartet that combines the diverse geographies and cultures of its musicians. The experience of living abroad, of engaging different cultures and of both questioning and missing a homeland, inevitably determine and nurture Sherele’s interpretation of klezmer music. Sherele’s arrangements of traditional klezmer repertoire often combine elements from jazz, tango, rock and Argentine and Mexican folklores.
