SHIMURA CURVES: Charming girl pop from London, congregating melodious atmosphere and angelic tunes, sacred by a kraut aura. There's one bloke in the band, plus four pop-affectionated girls wearing stylish dresses, and that can only be a good thing. A pleasant, robotic blend of acoustic guitars, synthesizers and harmonious vocals. For fans of Stereolab, Karftwerk and Electrelane.
(Goonite Club)
Lovers of sweetly charming and twinkling nursery / toybox pop should find themselves satiated by Shimura Curves. The Curves do a remarkable line in lunar-like harmonic manoeuvres that evokes the shyness of some of the Sarah labels finest. They blend a softly cured 60s appeal with early Plone-like invention to combine perfectly into a kind of kindergarten Stereolab appreciation. (from Losingtoday.com.)
"Sashaying around self-conciously like Pipettes who didn't get chosen for games, Shimura Curves don't do slick. They swig from a bottle of cheap rose, chat to each other during songs, and attempt some theoretically synchronised dance routines. But despite the air of post-pub chaos, their jaunty electronica is cutely infectious. With songs about lost London rivers and cutely decorative harmonies, they sit a few rows away from Saint Etienne and The Shortwave Set, riding the kitsch pop Routemaster, giggling."
(Julian Ridgway, The Fly, April 2006.)
"As usual it's up to the ladies to make something truly special
out of that sticky old pop music stuff. Shimura Curves (mmm, maths
geekery) wear lovely carefully chosen dresses, they live on pink wine
and best of all create silkily strokeable tunes full of luxuriant
harmonies and flickering gorgeousness. Like the fab 'Noyfriend'. See
their myspace and marvel." (From Kitten Painting.)
KATE was in a band called The Lollies. Then she got a titanium POWERBOOK, where she spends her time weaving songs from loops made with REASON, CUBASE and loads of GUITAR PEDALS. Other girls came along and made HARMONIES with their voices. LISA and SANDE sing and play the CABEZA. ED plays the BELLZOUKI and FRANCES plays the wibbling dirty dronerock KORG. WILL CARRUTHERS plays BASS and SINGS THE DEEP BITS on RA RA RASPUTIN.

Hola, are you liklely to play a gig anytime soon in the London area? Reason for asking is that I am likely to move soon and I have been hoping to catch you live for such a long time. And if not is there anything you released available, except for what's already on that Kids at the Club compiliation?
Kate, I thought you might be interested in a new myspace group I started called Gigswap. The group includes a list of independent promoters from around the UK.
I started the group to try to help my favourite Birmingham bands get gigs elsewhere and to try to encourage my favourite bands from elsewhere to get gigs in Birmingham. How anyone uses the group is up to them.
I called it Gigswap beacuse most small independent promoters seem reluctant to book bands from out of town that they don't know, so, perhaps, gigswapping might persuade them otherwise.
Thanks for accepting and adding me in your friends and posted a comment!! I'm so happy to know you and glad to be your friend!! I like your sweet and beautiful but cool music!!
Thanks for including us on your friends list. I hope that you liked the songs
As a Boston radio station said about our album.........
“This isn't just the best damned drinking album of the year; it's the best damned CD to play before you go out drinking to pump yourself up album of the year”
I reckon it also goes for our live show. So come along one day, see if you can drink us under the table and dance us off of the stage!
nice one Shimuras. Actually, I was talking about you on Sunday to a band who was playing with us and were from Lambeth. They hadn't heard of you, the cheek! I told them to look you up. I'll find out the name.xx
