Show Without Punch is a piano-led group, sitting somewhere between early Tom Waits and Talk Talk after a few pints of real cider. Roger Illingworth provides gruff vocals over percussive piano lines, backed by Adam Jarvis on upright bass, and Raphael Saib on drums. Show Without Punch’s limited edition first album draws influence from throughout the deep well of popular song. The band play regularly at some of London’s best venues – the Luminaire, the Troubadour, the Windmill – and have supported the Broken Family Band at a sell-out performance at London’s 2000-capacity Scala venue. Show Without Punch are part of the ever-solidifying Lost Toys collective/label, along with the Johnny Parry Trio and Grubby Mitts.
Nice things people have said about Show Without Punch:
“Electric… These guys are original.” - Sojournpussy
“Oho! Show Without Punch, well done chaps - here’s a band that’s deliberately trying to keep my attention.” - Music Review
“I should quote some lyrics here from the marvelous ‘For Your Troubles’ or ‘Come On Home’ but I’m not going to, that would be doing the work for you, you lazy bugger.” Magic Bullet
“An uncanny sense of timelessness: it sounds like it could have been written at any point in the past 50 years, without seeming in any way hackneyed, an incredible trick to pull off.” - Painted Weirdos
“It’s grizzled, it’s got swearing; but it’s as pretty as a puppy.” - Make Noise
Hey! Sorry for the late response! Thankyou very much :) I will hopefully be recording some more recent material soon, so i will definitely let you know when that's up. I'm not sure if I will be up in London in the summer, but I am going to Westminster uni in October so will definitely be up there then and would love to do some gig swaps!
I will be there on the 26th Sept! No doubt about it. I actually asked perfect 5th if i could support you guys, but they said it's already been arranged :( real shame.
Hey Roger, Tis me, yes singing the first thing that comes out, it could be alter-new or just silly and naive, Thanks for your comment, likewise, enjoying your new recordings, spoke to Andy, he said you guys were all doing well which is great, definitely coming to 26th May so I hope we finally meet in person.
