Sian Evans (Kosheen) & Simon Kingman.
We met in Cardiff as new kids on the local music scene Sian was 16 at the time and I was 19. We instantly became friends and found we shared many common musical influences, Joni Mitchell, CSN, James Taylor and America, as well as British Folk hero John Martyn.
We started playing together in local bands and became flatmates, along with two other musician friends, the late great Andy Maule and guitarist Kevin Dobie.
Sian found international success fronting the famous dance/pop band ’Kosheen’ from Bristol. Kosheen have recently released their 3rd highly successfull album ’Damage’-www.kosheen.com.
I stayed in Wales, band leading and session playing, and touring with bands from Cardiff, eventually setting up the acclaimed music venue ‘The Toucan‘.
After a reunion gig in aid of the Tsunami disaster, we began playing together in the winter of 2006 and started developing this project in 2007. We get together twice a week, sit around Sian’s big kitchen table with guitars and coffee and see what comes out.
So far we’ve only played a handfull of gigs including a filmed performance in Los Angeles in December 2006. In Dec 2007 we were invited to play at a festival in Moscow, the gig was a great success and we had a great time. It was in Moscow we decided to use the name ’Melo Park’ for our future gigs as a band. We continue our writing sessions and are currently putting the finishing touches to our first Album of songs set to be released sometime in the near future.
The songs were recorded at the studio of welsh keyboard wizard Richard Dunne who features heavily on them along with Aaron Ahmun (drums-John Martyn, Linda Lewis) and Pete Hurley (bass-Van Morrison).
We are available with the full band or as an acoustic duo.
