RICH RUSSO COMES DOWN ON MUSICIANS WITH INTEGRITY!!! This is something I posted about the 101.9 RXP "showcase" I played at D. Street on Staten Island...I would appreciate everyone's opinions on this...Rich thought it out of line, and instead of owning up to the shortcomings of the events he proceeded to berate me to the band I filled in with that night as well as the band I regularly play with, The Headlocks. Everyone but me. I really have to call him out here. So here's my post that appeared in the SI Live section:
"OK, so I played this Dock St. gig last night and while I understand it's cool for exposure, it actually ends up exploiting bands using this "build your chops" bit...This is obviously not exclusive to new bands, so that point goes out the window for me...Been playin live 20 years myself...One other thing that really burns my butt is that the DJ is up there shouting out the beer sponsoring the night and they don't even hook up the band...Not even a discount on the sponsoring brew!?! CHEEZY AND WRONG! No pay and two drinks a piece, that's cool?? There are some places that hook it up around here, this ain't one of em."
Does this seem out of line to anyone? Is this unreasonable? This guys out there taking advantage of young musicians eager to give their material up and then berating someone that has some integrity and expects to be treated fair! You are something man...I'd really like to hear him explain how that "showcase" was a fair deal for the bands...BSh'T!! Come on, he's "showcasing" a bunch of bands that play frequently on Staten Island....ON STATEN ISLAND?? And charging a cover on top of it?? Did you actually promote this on air or in any way? Jesus you must be some kinda tool man. Take care.
