Sounds Like
Wrapped somewhere in the Porcupine Tree / Pink Floyd school or space prog lies Siddhartha blending instrumentation into some of the most delicious jams you have ever heard. Siddhartha blend Gilmour'esque electric guitar over symphonic landscape with some incredible bass and percussive moments. This album is full of major mood swings from very serene and tranquil moments to the all out blitzkrieg jam sessions. Vocals are convincingly sung in english and in fact carry a certain "spaceyness" to them which fits the music quite well. Instrumentation is deep with some great warm sounds for your speakers.
Siddhartha is full of surprises and each songs carries its own colors and characteristics always sounding highly original. This is an essential recording and will absolutely remain a classic in this household...

The long tracks, like the instrumental “A trip to inner self” (10’29”), and the partly instrumental “Nervous Brakedown” (12’03”) has long stretched passages of over-the-top layers of psychedelic electric guitar improvisations, with second echoed guitars, some reverbed bass guitars, has several Floydian movements and guitar effects, psychedelic keyboards and effects, some great progressive drumming, and a nice variation in the songs themselves.
"The Explorer" is a great guitar psych song with some Middle Eastern tuning elements.
"Desert" is an acoustic song (with double layered guitar).
“Kervan” after that is a fantastic psych track with reverb guitars, keyboards, lots of rhythm changes, drums and some additional Turkish percussion.
“Baroque” is even more arranged -progressive/psychedelic rock- with some harpsichord, with many guitar layers, with an old classical like composition still in a psych/prog style.
"Beyond Destiny” is also very arranged, with multilayers of electric guitars and is in between prog and psych, with here and there a progressive hard rock touch in the guitar psychedelia. We hear also bits of piano and vocals.
"Distant Cry" a great psych-ballad. The last long track, “Om” also has some female vocals to it sung by Nil Karaibrahimgil.
Hidden in the last minutes is also a great mystery track : Middle Eastern psychedelia combined with another variety of rock styles.
This album has great guitar playing, very good arrangements and splendid execution !!
Siddhartha was formed in 1993 with the line-up comprising Özgür Kurcan (vocals & guitars), Ege Madra (guitars), Ulas Akin (bass) & Ari Alpert (drums).
Following 5 years of busy performance schedules: festivals, organisations & concerts, they've finally released the debut album that had its unique psychedelic & progressive rock sound which also consists electronic influences in 1998.
Unfortunately in 2000, the band has left the underground music scene of Istanbul silently leaving a debut album & 2 complation albums behind...
