"...arpeggios produce melodies and bass lines underlain with drones, while the intricate drumming acts as far more then just a way to keep time. This guitar style evokes indie rock without being overly simplistic, this creating a distinct sound amongst the increasingly generic bunch of instrumental bands around today. Silian Rail makes use of repetition as a tool to build tension and progress the song, but manages to also demonstrate melodic phrases as well. The song structures are atypical, but progress, and do not drag on too long as to become aimless or uninteresting." - The Silent Ballet
Silian Rail is Robin (guitar) and Eric (drums, glockenspiel). They play instrumental music which combines richly complex, open-tuning, finger picked guitar playing with aggressive, intricate drumming. Their songs are constantly shifting mazes of rich melodies and intense rhythms, equally epic, fragile and explosively dynamic.
Eric and Robin are long lost friends who grew up together in Durham, North Carolina and parted ways at 13, only to re-meet accidentally years later in California. Drawn together by the shared history of their musically rich hometown and the sheer oddball luck of the situation, they began playing music together.......They found it quite delightful, and they have kept on keeping on since then, playing everywhere from the Bottom of the Hill to Churches in Modesto, and with numerous incredible bands, including From Monument to Masses, Maserati, Judgement Day, and Giraffes? Giraffes! They have also been pleased to participate in the Madcat Women's International Film Festival two years in a row, performing original live scores. They are proud members of Thread Productions, alongside Tartufi, Low Red Land, Birds & Batteries and Sky Pilots. Thread was voted Best Music Collective by the East Bay Express in 2007......They are excited, busy, humble, grateful and loud.......THANKS
