Those were the days. Chelsea were shit, music used to be on vinyl, and Melody Maker was in your newsagents. --- A LONG TIME AGO, back in the summer of 1988, having gone to watch friends My Bloody Valentine play a great gig at The Fulham Greyhound, Fuzz (In-Stinks) , Chris and Stuart (both Moonsters), were watching the main act, The Pastels, plod through their set. When they couldn't take anymore, it was decided there and then to form a band that was the complete opposite of the Pastels, and so Silverfish was formed, a kicking and screaming mess of noise.
----
The early rehearsals, in Chris P's West London kitchen, consisted of Fuzz turning his distortion up full, Stuart hammering away on a fire extinguisher, with Chris screaming, growling, and pulling on a bass string. Songs like Total Fucking Asshole, and Die, somehow came out of the mayhem. Originally, there was another guitarist and bassist, but soon it was down to just the three of them.
----
With Chris's vocal sounding too much like the many contemporary death metal vocalists, it was decided that a different approach was needed. Fuzz had met Lesley when she was singing with The Grizzeldas, and it was clear that she would be a great choice for Silverfish. After a bottle of wine or two, she decided to give it a go, singing , screaming, scaring boys and tearing her hair out. For a while at least.
----
By the winter of 1988 they were playing their first gigs.
That was the fun part.
Then they signed to WIIIJA and rest as they say was like driving with no brakes.
----
Records were released and gigs were played. Europe and America were toured. John Peel sessions were recorded. The main stage Reading Festival 1991 was played. The Berlin Wall was spraypainted. Other record labels included Touch & Go, Creation, and Sony. But with Fuzz and Lesley having a dust-up on stage in small town America, was it Knoxville, it all came to a head on the US 93 tour and the band split. Hang on... was that the reason.. it’s all such a blur now
----
Oh well such is life.
----
And this brings us up to date. It’s why this page exists. It’s why I’ve sat here putting together this myspace beauty. We are now in the digital age. Silverfish is joining the modern world and will soon be available for download on iTunes. Lord help us all.
----
Being made available first will be the Organ Fan album. Some of those songs can be heard on this page.
