Cosmic funk, space rock or psychedelic trance rock - whatever you want to call it, Silver Machine is a new band out of Asheville, NC which mixes tight funky grooves with wild experimentation. Featuring a 'Theremin' (a retro-futuristic electronic instrument from the 1920's), Silver Machine has a spooky, laptop-free, far-out sound alot like the old Science Fiction and Horror film soundtracks from the past. The band has a sound all of its own, while influenced by classic bands like Pink Floyd, and newer bands like Sound Tribe Sector Nine and Ozric Tentacles.
Silver Machine formed at the beginning of 2008 and features members from 'The Royal We', 'Fuzzy Bucket', 'Pond Rock' and 'Count Blastula'. Their enthusiastic sound is a unique improvisational mix of spooky psychedelia, acid rock, and a healthy dose of funk. The idea is to create an atmosphere that encourages honest expression, fluid spontaneity and group elevation.
"As a band, we're always discussing the idea of elevating ourselves and our listeners or trying to take our music to a strange place where we haven't been before... keeping our music open to re-invention and open interpretation... we try to reach a different level of consciousness through music..."
Silver Machine is gaining momentum in Asheville and around the region, performing in clubs throughout NC, SC, TN, and VA, and festivals such as Dexfest, SOULstice, and returning for a 2nd year in a row to Trinumeral & TOUCH Samadhi's Fall Equinox. Recently the band has been performing shows with the Malah, Agobi Project, and Boombox, of which that particular show at the Neighborhood Theater in Charlotte, will soon have Silver Machine appearing once again on URTV locally; early on Silver Machine played at the Orange Peel for the Moog Foundation's "Mooged-Out" show featuring many of Asheville's talented performers; Silver Machine is performing in festivals, clubs, and parties where people are ready for something out-of-the-ordinary.
