I recorded under the alias Peak:shift for most of my early releases, but in the last few years have used my real name (theatrical as it is), Simon Flower.

Influences
Many and varied....but big 'uns are the West Coast beaches of New Zealand, synthesisers, 120 bpm (I may stray but I always seem to come back to that tempo), Tokyo, Propellerheads Reason (yup, I write all my tracks solely on Reason), the odd feeling I get watching a David Lynch film or reading Philip K.Dick or Haruki Murakami, the early A.M hours, red light, blue light, the music of Denver McCarthy and Basic Channel et al, still nights, Detroit techno...
Well now...I've been making music and involved with the electronic music scene in Auckland, New Zealand since the early 90's - which was a damn cool time really, before electronic music fractured into genres so it was all new soil, putting on gigs, being a teenager and freaking out over synthesisers and whatnot. I often get the feeling like everything I'm doing now is just trying to perfect on my influences from that time, which then reminds me of an Aspen track with the super cool title 'This Is Why Only Teenagers Can Really Love Music'... Started a nice little label called Nurture as I thought a group of us here were making some great music and there was a common and unique sound there. Super happy as Nurture really got out there into the world and got heard - I’m still really proud of being involved with those releases. Always toying with the idea of starting it up again, but it’s a bit of a battlefield out there. Making the move from an analogue studio to a computer was a hard one, there were several years of woe-is-me artistic flagellation, but, you know, I’m feeling much better now. Honest. Also currently loving making club music, all those years of being a club DJ and all I made was slow deep tunes, and now that I’ve stopped the DJing I’ve gone all club on it. C’est la Vie. I love playing live - truly - you can tell how much by how much I sweat when I do it. It’s horrific. Actually there’s an equation for that I think. E x T= S or something like that. Still living in New Zealand – I love it here as apart from its laid back lifestyle and amazing nature, there is actually no pop music scene here, which, you know, pretty much rules.

Stolen Nature adeptly bridges the synthetic/organic abyss with uniquely composed granular textures, aleatoric rhythmic patterns and modal jazz structures. The release's arcane theme is unfalteringly cohesive and conceptual from beginning to end. Miller's compositional sensibility on Stolen Nature has reconciled the poles of unadulterated, native sounds and processed, algorithmic music. These two adverse ideas are adroitly synthesized into a hybrid entity that lives and breathes on its own. The stochastic electronics laden deep in Stolen Nature's structure seem to have a sentient quality that hauntingly reflects recent developments in the field of artificial intelligence. The intricate machinations featured on Stolen Nature are inclined to deep personal sentiments and emotion. Cullen's application of traditional instruments takes the antiquated oral tradition and fuses it into a futuristic context.
