dubbed out bluegrass

wearing 3d glasses with your eyes closed
perfume evaporating off a duck flying backwards
a hot flannel coming at ya

   About Simon Kelly

Singer songwriter Simon Kelly's repetitious rootsy poetry has drawn comparisons to Paul Simon and JJ Cale with subtle African and reggae rhythms.

Kelly's unique music has been praised by critics accross Australia, prompting one reviewer to claim 'Simon Kelly is Australia’s best kept secret in music'

Xpress Magazine writes “Kelly is a man defying convention, setting his beat driven acoustic balladry to the hypnotic sway of the Caribbean, but coating it with lush, whisper like vocals. Kelly is unlike any other singer songwriter Australia (at least) has seen".

Drum Media says 'Whatever is in the water in Fremantle, it has spawned another Australian roots guru in Simon Kelly'

Simon is one of the most talked about acts in the thriving Fremantle roots scene. He has toured with Blue King Brown, Ash Grunwald, Kate Miller-Heidke and The Audreys and has supported Lior, Jeff Martin, Serena Ryder, Bob Evans and many other national and international touring acts. He has also performed at festivals across Australia, including Peats Ridge, Fairbridge, Bridgetown Blues, Southbound and the Big Day Out.

Kelly cut his teeth playing in teen rock band Wasted Youth who supported the likes of Silverchair, You Am I, The Cruel Sea, Bad Religion and The Cramps, played The Big Day Out twice and toured Australia with Suicidal Tendencies all by the age of 19. A lifestyle move from the city to the country after finishing a bachelor of arts degree provided a time for reflection and a backdrop for playing and developing his acoustic guitar stylings. During this time Kelly also managed to tour Australia with the Circus providing an interesting mix of life experiences and observations from which to draw inspiration from.

After spending a couple of years playing various rural pubs and taverns in the Southern corner of Western Australia, Kelly reconnected with Ross Stewart from Embryo Records who heard a track on local ABC radio while holidaying in the area. A few phone calls later and some studio sessions were organized with the outcome being seven inspiring tracks of mellow southern roots infused with subtle reggae undertones - simple yet brilliant. His self titled debut mini album was produced by acclaimed producer HiRO? at Bold Park Studio and the single ‘Train’ received airplay on Triple J and high rotation on numerous community radio stations across Australia.

Simon released his debut full length album in 2007 called 'Tribal Astronaut'. The album was recorded by industry veteran Jeremy Allom, who has worked with names such as Bjork, Massive Attack and David Bowieand features performances from some of Western Australia’s best musicians, including Shaun Sibbes (Eskimo Joe, Sneaky Sound System), Alex Archer (Kill Devil Hills), and Ben Franz (the Waifs).

Simon has toured the east coast multiple times and is an engaging solo perfomer, using a loop pedal incorporating percussion and guitar loops to create a full sound that is not out of place on bills with full bands..

Simon Kellys music has also featured in several US prime time tv shows including Cane, Samantha Who and Army Wives and he has composed the score to a feature film (Uneven Ground) that is currently screening at film festivals accross the world and contains many original songs performed by the Simon Kelly Band..

Simon has recently completed a new album with Tokyo based Canadian producer Alan Brey. The album was released in july 2009 and features a more edgier sound. The first single was placed on spot rotation on jjj and has recieved airplay from community stations around Australia.

2009 has seen Simon continue his busy national touring schedule as well as picking up a nomination for Best Blues and Roots Artist by the West Australian Music Industry

We Scratch A Dog Behind’s It’s Ear
We Kiss A Child To Stop The Tears
We Wash Our Car To Make It Clean
Think We Are The Only One That Sane

It Is Not Important That We Understand
Why Everything Did Not Go On Planned
Lovers Rush, While Others Wait
Who Knows What Could Be Fate

As Sure As There Will Be Sunshine On Another Day
Here Will Always Be Someone Who Might Go Away
As One Could Admire A Babbling Brook
Some Might Not Give It A Second Look

While Some Things In Life May Seem Unfair
Just Be Pleased If You Have Done Your Share
A Lesson We Should Learn From Each Mistake We Do
The Lesson I Have Learned Will Share It With You

Looking At Each Sunrise We Should Say
This Is The Start Of A Glorious Day
Reflecting On The Sunset At Night
We Are Lucky To See Such A Beautiful Sight

Enjoy Each Moment And Treasure You Find
Try To Be Open, Honest And Kind
If Life Was Easy…
Where Would All The Adventures Be???

May You Be Blessed With The Love You Hold In Your Heart And The Courage To Keep On Loving As Your Journey Through Life

Sometimes when i look around, all i see is misery, despair, frustration and pain...

Then, i close my eyes, take a couple deep breaths, RELAX...And ask myself, "WHAT IF all I saw was what I WANTED TO SEE?" Then, I open my eyes. I see the sun, I see the blue sky, I see my girls smiling back at me, I see life...

And then, lo and behold, I see nothing but OPPORTUNITY...

A very warm welcome..
FRIEND VOTE is the place for Artists with Friends, not fans. It's a page where you can find the very best music on Myspace by Artists that actually communicate with the people that take the time to comment on their pages.
To join in, all you need to do is ask your friends to vote for one of your songs, if you get enough votes you appear in the chart, if you appear in the chart you will get more friends, if you get to No.1 your page views and song plays will increase significantly!
All the best, hope to see you in the chart soon. Keith@FV.

Had a thought while driving home and I wanted to share it. Hope you don’t mind…

When we truly let go of past hurts, hang-ups and disappointments and choose to live in the moment, in the now, in the PRESENT, life truly can be a GIFT.

Hope you liked this one. :)

Also, if you like these, shoot me comments letting me know, join me on my Facebook page and when I send you a link to my website once it gets finished next week, be sure to go it and sign up and I’ll send these to you there as well. Take care
