Sinem Saniye (pronounced “see-nem” “sahh-knee-yeh,”) is an award-winning singer/songwriter from New York City, who channels a sound that skirts Nelly Furtado, Norah Jones, and Shakira. Sinem worked with Grammy-Award winning producers on her debut album “When I Don’t Sleep..” who have also worked with the likes of No Doubt, David Bowie, Brazilian Girls, Louise Attaque, Norah Jones, Fiona Apple, and more. Sinem played her first US Tour 2010, (an ambitious 30-city, 3-month SOLO feat spanning the entire US and even into Vancouver Canada, where she nearly got arrested for having mace on her key chain!) Sinem Saniye ended the tour in her native New York City with a spectacular homecoming show, opening for Grammy-nominated artist Lisa Loeb at City Winery. Along her travels, Sinem played at SXSW 2010, was featured in the press in several states, played to a sold-out crowds including at Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, made the LA papers with a feature in the LA Examiner, and was interviewed by Metro Unplugged, a TV program which featured a performance and interview by Sinem on all Los Angeles city buses and metro system everyday for an entire week… that’s a viewership of nearly 100,000 commuters! She’s won several songwriting awards, including the Grand Prize in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Competition. One of nearly 20,000 other songwriters, she was able to impress the judges, who included Tom Waits, Jesse Harris, and Fergie from the Black-Eyed Peas. Delta Airlines also featured Sinem’s music on their inflight program for two months in early 2010. 
Furthermore, Sinem has been featured in well-known magazines and papers including TimeOUT NY, Global Rhythm Magazine, The Village Voice, The Los Angeles Times, the LA Examiner, The Idaho Tribune, DC IST, and television programs across the US such as Indi Music TV, Music Mix USA, Swept Away TV, The Rhythms of NY, The Directors Chair, and Metro Unplugged (a program that recently aired to over 100,000 commuters on the entire Los Angeles bus systems’ TV screens in April of 2010.) Sinem has also appeared on national television networks overseas including CNN, Fox TV, Kanal D, TGRT-Haber, TRT-INT, Flash TV Haber, and ATV, and MTV. This summer Sinem finished in the TOP 3 in a contest to play Lilith Fair NY! An impressive feat, beating out over 360 other musicians. "When I Don't Sleep" is a mixture of heartfelt songs as honest as a diary about a troubled youth, vulnerability, the search for identity, celebrating the mystery of the afterlife, finding love the most unlikely places, discovering a second sexual coming of age, restlessness and fear, and all the thoughts that may race through any person's mind when they are up at night, unable to sleep, and searching for answers...

With this kind of captivating subject matter, it's no surprise Sinem's voice comes through with such raw honesty, smooth, strong, and soaring at times, shy, gritty, and vulnerable at others. The songs on the album are deliciously wrapped up in Pop Americana with Bossa Nova, Jazz, and Middle-Eastern flavors, combining Sinem's love of Pop beats and song structure with World music influences.

"When I Don't Sleep.." is an album that is sure to stay in your collection forever, never aging over time, but staying young in its childlike and innocent nature, always restless, never weary, and brewing with a secret sensuality that is begging to be released.





THE MAKING OF:

PRODUCTION
The album came to fruition through the work of several talented collaborators that Sinem sought out. Produced by French producer Henri Scars Struck, "When I Don't Sleep.." has just the right mix of European sounds, Middle-eastern beats, tinges of Jazz, and Pop/Electronica beats he is known for.

MIXING

Once all the recording was completed, Sinem sought out mixing engineer Mark Plati to create the balance in the songs. Mark has worked with David Bowie, The Cure, Shawn Colvin, Prince, Brazilian Girls, Natalie Imbruglia, Earl Slick, IVY, Heather Eatman, Anik Jean, Louise Attaque, Eden Ants, Dave Navarro, Les Rita Mitsouko, Hooverphonic, Michael Stipe, Alisha's Attic, Junior Vasquez, Arthur Baker, Alain Bashung, New Order, Suzanne Vega, Marc Cohn, Ruth Ruth, Duncan Sheik, Robbie Williams, Riuichi Sakamoto, and Quincy Jones among others. MASTERING

The last but never least in the creative part of the album-making process, the mastering. This is when all the songs are lined up, and are sonically adjusted to the highest quality, to put it simply. The legendary Greg Calbi of Sterling Sound Studios was the mastering engineer for the project. He has worked with a long list of chart-topping artists, including Norah Jones, Fionna Apple, John Lennon, to name just a very few.


Philip A. Jimenez, musical mentor and original producer of the album, was the seed of the project. He was the person who first encouraged Sinem to record her debut album. Philip is most known for his work as producer and former member of multi-platinum selling band Wheatus, Gordo Gringo, and is currently producer and band member of Easy Anthems.
