  • Bio

Now at four decades of an original singing and songwriting journey, the members of Smithfield Fair (known from 1973 to 1989 as Charmer) are evidence that good music can be individual, intriguing, and exceptionally original. With 27 albums to their credit and an international reputation on stage, screen, radio and internet, Jan, Bob & Dudley-Brian Smith have become synonymous with an eclectic blend of rich harmony, rhythm, acoustic instrumentation and an effective pastiche of musical styles, blending Celtic and Americana - including bits of blues, gospel, jazz, folk, classical, swing and pop. Truly, as reviewers remarked, Smithfield Fair is "a folksy Supertramp" with "a definite Peter Gabriel vibe." Long noted by critics and reviewers for the warmth and high standard of quality in their recordings and performances, the trio continues its musical journey in its own unique, unwavering fashion.

Bio:

.. .. Smithfield Fair has been a vehicle for the songwriting and performing talents of the Smith family for 4 decades. Starting in 1973 in Pensacola, Florida, the group focuses on original songs, tight harmonies and driving rhythms underscored by acoustic instrumentation. As Charmer and now Smithfield Fair, Jan, Dudley-Brian and Bob Smith have just (2011) released their 27th album - Every New Day. They continue to perform a selective schedule of concerts, festivals, small halls, cafes, coffeehouses and house concerts. Their music is a blend of styles from Celtic to swing, jazzy folk to acoustic pop with a little gospel and swamp pop stirred in. Truly, as one reviewer remarked, Smithfield Fair is "a folksy Supertramp." Jan, Dudley-Brian and Bob, occasionally joined in concert by long-time co-producer/guitarist J. David Praet, have performed at such events as the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Kerrville Folk Festival. Long noted by critics and reviewers for the warmth and high standard of quality in their recordings and performances, the trio continues to received worldwide recognition and airplay.
