ME Music entertainment magazine review......Next up this month is a band from Louisville by the name of Snake Eyed Savior. The group was formed in early 2008 and consists of Vic Hillerich on vocals, Jeff Toy and Jason Williams on guitar, Todd Conn on bass and Jason Lakes on drums. Some of you that have been around the scene for a while may recall that Vic, Jeff and Todd were formerly members of another Louisville band called My Own Victim that were signed to Century Media Records in the late Ninties.
Snake Eyed Savior lay down some serious power/hardcore metal with a dash of the stoner metal vibe in parts. The song "Sleep Amongst The Damned" swaggers with a serious Black Label Society vibe with a generous dose of heavy mid-tempo riffing and pinch harmonics. Vic's vocal delivery reminds me of Tommy Victor from Prong or possibly Henry Rollins at their meanest. The guitar tones all their posted songs is super thick and the snaky harmony riff at the beginning of "Ready To Strike" is a great opening hook before the band begins to pound your head with some Hatebreed influenced hardcore mosh metal. The guitar solos in "Sleep Amongst" and "Ready" contain some well played wah-wah riffing and the panning in "Sleep" is a cool effect headphone listeners will appreciate. On the song "Til I Touch The Sun" the band puts together a nice mix of speed and heavy chug for the verses that pull the listener back and forth, and the double kicks keep the song driving straight to the end.
Most metal bands these days either go the twin lead guitarist route or the heavy groove route and Snake Eyed Savior have chosen the latter. With riffs that slam you in the chest and vocals that overwhelm you with their sheer power, Snake Eyed Savior are here to let everyone know they mean business and they won't stop til your neck breaks from headbanging! If you're a fan of the BLS/Hatebreed/C.O.C. style of full blast groove, then Snake Eyed Savior is the band for you.
