DEAD RATS is a young, loud and snotty streetpunkband from SNC, Belgium. It all started when Johnny and Sammy were dropped in the same class in 2002. Together with their true friends and original members of the SNC PUNX sticky stef, punkrock jimmy and silent R, they shared the same taste of music. They started picking up instruments and focussed on learning the skills.
The only goal they had back then was bringing punk back to their town by starting a band and organising some shows.
Johnny knew how to play the guitar, Sammy was playing the bass for Turn the Screw and Johnnys little dreadlocked brother played the drums for some years. So in April 2005 they finally started jamming. After the first rehearsal they decided to take J. on guitar and leave the singing to Johnny. The first 5 songs were recorded at DS14 in the summer of 2005 and were selfreleased by the rats on tape and cd. In May 2005 they played their first show at sticky stefs birthday party in his living room. Thanks to some good friends they got thrown on the US BOMBS and THE HEARTACHES show in their hometown. The rats opened that show and their name was made: everybody knew SNC had a new, young punkband.
From then on they played with bands such as AGENT ORANGE, NEGATIVE APPROACH, THE CASUALTIES, TIME AGAIN, FUNERAL DRESS, DEAD STOP, THE KIDS, THE AVENGERS,86 MENTALITY, HUDSON FALCONS, ENEMY ROSE, RADIO DEAD ONES, SMASH MY RADIO and lots of crappy local bands.
As soon as the first demo was released the rats started working on new songs and the second demo got recorded. It got the name SNC PUNX because they wanted to claim that name for them and their friends. SNC refers to the movie SLC PUNK, where SLC stood for Salt Lake City, the rats came up with the SNC referring to Sint-Niklaas City. The new demo had 5 new songs that were a lot better than the first demo...but still the rats werent satisfied.
Something didnt feel right, they wanted to go different ways and thats were they decided that J. had to leave the band. He was more of a rockn roll rockstar than a punkrocker.
Then again the 3 other rats are back where they started, playing loud and fast streetpunksongs. After playing shows as a trio for a while, they finally found the right guy to complete the band: Hans fuckin' Rats, a young talented guitar player from SNC. With this line-up they released a LAST DEMO with 8 songs that they've been playing for almost a year.
Right now they' re working hard on new tracks which they wanna release on a split record later this year on a label they can fully trust.
