..

Solar Chi lives here
we present to you, a magical array of bands and artists.

Visit our homepage and our online shop for all Solar Chi releases so far.
You can play or buy individual tracks or complete albums / E.P.'s

Feel free to leave a message at our blog site, solar chi say

Thank you for dropping in.

Our Ethos:

Solar Chi are more like a collective of artists
than a traditional label. We all work closely together
to perfect our art and get it to the people who
appreciate new music.

We are non-profit, meaning that the artist gets full royalties,
and so we can then also cut the price of the music to the buyer.
So everyones a winner!

If you like our music, please support us by purchasing a release,
coming to a gig or even just tell us which tracks you like.

We have downloads at our online shop that are
super high quality 320kbps mp3s. These are digital copy protection free,
and can be used to transfer to your mp3 player, or burned at a
high quality to CD. We have plans for CD releases soon,
but we do need support to finance these projects.

Mank

Mank is the Welsh ambient electronic project of Benjamin Powell, based in Bangor in North Wales, has been recording as Mank since 1998. Mank has received extensive play on Radio Wales including two half hour "mankymixes" reminiscent of the ISDN gigs done by the Future Sound Of London. In 2003 the Mank remixes of Kentucky AFC's "Bodlon" single were released on the R-Bennig record label. Ben caused a splash in 2003 with the unprecedented debut EP from his band Micrographia which was demo of the week in org magizine. Tracks from the Mank EP “Madarch” were played on national radio 1 by Rob Da Bank” in July 2005. In October 2006 "Cephalization" was released and played in full on by Adam Walton on Radio Wales, who described Ben as "one of the most important electronic artists in Wales". Mank's Cephalization EP is available to preview and buy at Solar Chi. Reissues and new releases will appear soon.

Shotokan Disco

Shotokan Disco is artist name of Mark Dixon, from Rhosllanerchrugog, near Wrexham, North Wales. Mark has been working on the sound of Shotokan Disco since 2000, since leaving the band Ward 13, featuring Ashley Bird, ex-Kerrang Editor. The Ward 13 "Rum Diaries" track was co-written by Mark Dixon, and was remixed by Bluestates. Songs co-written by Mark Dixon in Ward 13 were also featured on the award winning program Black Dog on BBC1. Mark has also written music for TV programs on Channel 4, MTV and various cable channels. A Music Technology and Audio System Design degree was completed in 2001, alongside Quinoline Yellow (Skam), Duplo Remote (Fat Cat) and Oddskool (Machine Records). He has also designed software, electronics and technical literature as well as managing projects for hi-end British hifi manufacturer Chord Electronics, and the products he's worked on have featured on the front cover of hifi magazines such as Hifi News, Hifi+ and Hifi choice. Shotokan Disco's experimental sound is founded in folk, ambient, electronica, trip-hop, roots, jazz, prog-rock, dub and world music, drawing comparisons to The Beta Band, Underworld, Orb, Orbital, The Doors, Ian Brown and Jose Gonzalez. Shotokan's recording methods and live sets centre upon experimentation and improvisation, with him taking on the roles of a full band involving him playing live drum programming, bass guitar, guitars, piano, vocals, live mixing, fx and visuals on a projector. He is also the founding member of the Solar Chi label / collective and the website designer. Shotokan Disco's debut album "Sine Of The Thymes" will be available to preview and buy at Solar Chi soon.

My debut EP entitled 'Snow Cover', is out NOW on Rednetic Recordings. Hurrah!

'An EP of glacial beat structures carved from ice using found sounds and recordings from a mini disc recorder. These are enhanced by the beautifully constructed crystalline melodies that build and flow around the beats. As winter approaches Hybernation is the perfect solution.'

Its available from the very nice people at http://www.rednetic.com and http://www.n5md.com in the US/Canada. I'll also be playing a few gigs in the UK to promote it including the launch party on 7th Dec at The Sun Rooms in Southend-on-Sea. Hope to see you there :o)
