Sonic Pulsar is multi-instrumentalist Hugo Flores' main project, among others like Project Creation, Solo Albuns and side-projects with other musicians. Sonic Pulsar's sound, although still in the prog metal area, is quite different from Project Creation. It's heavier, more guitar-driven and more "direct". To sum up, it's more prog metal! Note: due to space constraints here, I was only able to upload the more direct "commercial" tracks (the 10 minute epics were too long 4 myspace).
It's a project, focusing on themes such as space and the universe, and more down-to earth social and political issues. Mix of progressive rock and metal, fusion, ambient and instrumental songs.

Sonic Pulsar started in 2000 with Hugo Flores and Carlos Mateus.
Hugo and Carlos met in school when they they were both living in Brussels, Belgium. They started playing the guitar together and by that time Hugo was already writing songs. They met in 1990, started playing guitar in 1993 and started Sonic Pulsar in 2001. In between, Hugo returned to Portugal in 1995, while Carlos went to England in 1996. Between 1996 and 2000, Hugo wrote some songs and finished 3 CDs, of which the last one, "Atlantis", was published by Fossil Records. Carlos contributed to this album with some lyrics. In August 2000, Carlos returned to Portugal to study for his Masters and in January 2001 they decided that they wanted to work together as a band, whilst not giving up Hugo's solo career. They started writing in February and finished this CD in December. They are very proud of what theyve been able to accomplish by themselves.
Their mix of genres comes out very naturally and it is a combination of their musical influences. Recently Nuno Ferreira joined the project, and he'll play in the bass section. Nuno is also a great guitar player, however he wanted to expand his knowledge, and began playing the bass and having regular jazz lessons.
What the press says:
"It feels good! It really does!
For several reasons, this new album by Portuguese talented guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Hugo Flores's brainchild Sonic Pulsar makes me sheer for the new generation of my country's progressive music.
Released by Mellow Records, Out of Place only comes to prove what I have said in a prior review for this bands previous album: the talent is here for everyone to take notice and the support from a renowned label would eventually take Sonic Pulsar to boost its way to a whole new level. And so it is!... " - Review at Proggnosis.com
"Sonic Pulsar's previous album Playing The Universe was very good. Out Of Place, however, elevates the band into the big leagues(...)
"Schizophrenic Playground" is a 10+ minute, 5-part instrumental that starts off with an intro that could have been lifted from Tangerine Dream, and quickly develops into a guitar / piano driven piece. It alternates between Flores's frantic distorted solos and an elegantly simple piano line that floats over the top of a controlled metallic chaos. It is the piano that defines this and several other tracks (like "Moving Engines") - not because it dominates, but because of the stark melodic contrast it provides. "Instrumetal" is a very similar piece, driven by an aggressive guitar, and the standout track "I Heard of a Place Called Earth" is another 10-minute 5-part mini-epic with vocals and a far more 'progressive' structure. To follow the storyline, keep the track listing with you. It helpfully spells out the starting and ending point of each sub-section, and the titles make it easy to follow.
Out Of Place falls somewhere between Ayreon and hard rock. Lightly metallic, very technical, well constructed and characterized by good melodies. Well recommended.
