SOPHIE HUNGER

Sophie Hunger was born in 1983 in Bern and spent a large part of her childhood in London and Bonn. In 2006 Hunger recorded her first demo in her living room, called it "Sketches On Sea" and sold several thousand copies. Hunger started sharing the stage with jazz greats such as Erik Truffaz, the industrial pioneers The Young Gods and the French vocal artist Camille. Her stage presence is ultimately what led to her breakthrough. “She’s Laura Marling, Beth Orton and Björk in one folk-rocking package" (The Guardian, UK), "breathtaking concert" (Musikexpress, DE), "excellent" (Le Monde, FR). The first studio album, "Monday’s Ghost”, was released in the spring of 2009, climbed to number one in the Swiss album charts and achieved gold status. In consequence, Hunger and her 5-member band traveled all across Europe that year, where they played over 100 concerts. She was invited on France1 to the music spectacle “Taratata”, performed in Paris at the Cité de la Musique, Olympia and Peter Brooks’ Theater Bouffe du Nord. Hunger also writes a series of fictional articles for the German Magazine Die Zeit and composes for theater and film. The biographical documentary on Switzerland’s national author Peter Bichsel, for which Hunger wrote the score will have its premier in 2010. Sophie Hunger’s new album “1983” will be released in the spring of 2010 and will be followed by a European-wide tour in which she will once again head out for unchartered territory.
