Spaceheater began as a duo, Bill producing pulsating beats with Evan’s flutes, saxes anc clarinets providing melody and harmony. Their debut release, “The Record”, was a successful 2006 album on Alpha Pup Records that received strong sales and topped charts at independent/college radio stations in North America and Europe, as well as iTunes.
“'The Record' is easily the best album I've heard this year. It's so effortlessly hip, funky, interesting, and fun simultaneously. It's a joy to listen to and a joy to play on the radio."
-Seth Samuels, Jazz Director WOBC FM
Spaceheater’s Blast Furnace is a rhythmically active 6-piece ensemble that presents melodic and tight horns over an organic patchwork of afro-latin and hip hop rhythms. The music is composed and arranged by Evan Francis, a member of the original duo who has made his way performing and recording with a diverse list of musical luminaries: Stevie Wonder, Billy Higgins, Christina Aguilera, Lyrics Born, Dr. Art Davis, Zion I, DJ J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, John Clayton, Mike Keneally and many more. The music on this album is representative of Evan’s background in afro-latin music, especially in the realm of modern Cuban dance music.
As a band, Spaceheater’s Blast Furnace has earned respect and admiration amongst audiences and musicians in and around the bay area, featuring the electronics-laced drumming of Patrick “PDubL” Korte and the deep pocket of Josh Hari on the bass, both talented rhythmists who have backed up artists like Lyrics Born. This album also features the work of young trombonist Garrett Smith, who’s impressive resume includes Prince, Maceo Parker and George Clinton and many more. Spaceheater has been fortunate to have live and in-studio associations with artists like Kneebody, Kev Choice, Daedelus, Abstract Rude and Mochipet.

To Release isn't to forget, not to think about, or ignore. It doesn't leave feelings of anger, jealousy, or regret. It's not about pride and it's not obsessing or dwelling on the past. It's not about giving in or giving up. To let go is to cherish the memories, but to overcome and move on. Letting go is learning and experiencing and growing. To release is to be thankful for the experiences that made you laugh, made you cry, and made you grow. It's about all that you have, all that you had, and all that you will soon gain. Letting go is releasing and having the courage to accept change, and the strength to keep moving. It is realizing that the heart can sometimes be the most potent remedy. To let go is to open a door, and to clear a path and set yourself free---
Spaceheater, remember that it's easy to let go when holding on hurts so bad--so free yourself from all these expectations and just be :-) Hope you find the unity in my new single posted âReleaseâ feat. JRockA. So come peep the track! Stay creative and stay connectedâ¦
