M. Spaff Sumsion (aka Spaff.com): Lyrics. Robert Lund: Vocals, Instruments, Production (i.e., everything).
Influences
Primarily, whoever we're spoofing. Like, say, Green Day, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Julie Andrews, Madonna, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Willie Nelson & Toby Keith, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow, The Drifters, Coldplay, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Joan Jett, Barry Manilow, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Ricky Martin, Five For Fighting, The Police, Men Without Hats, Avril Lavigne, Gene Autry, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Faith Hill, Roy Orbison, Train, Gordon Lightfoot, Metallica, Cristopher Cross, The Shangri-La's, U2, Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs, The Village People, Dobie Gray, Shania Twain, Santana & Rob Thomas, Jimmy Buffett, Julie Andrews, Jose Feliciano, Lou Reed, Tommy James & the Shondells, Jo Dee Messina, Joe Cocker, Tommy Tutone, Dan Fogelberg, Thompson Twins, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Elmo & Patsy, Lou Bega, Brian Hyland, Michael Jackson, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. For starters.
Think "Weird Al" Yankovic, minus the good looks. We also gotta name-drop Dr. Demento, Tom Lehrer, and Allan Sherman, just in case anyone here is wise enough to search for them.
Sounds Like
whoever we're spoofing. (At least that's the objective, more or less.) Like, say, Green Day, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Julie Andrews, Madonna, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Willie Nelson & Toby Keith, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow, The Drifters, Coldplay, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Joan Jett, Barry Manilow, The Kinks, The Beach Boys, Ricky Martin, Five For Fighting, The Police, Men Without Hats, Avril Lavigne, Gene Autry, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Faith Hill, Roy Orbison, Train, Gordon Lightfoot, Metallica, Cristopher Cross, The Shangri-La's, U2, Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs, The Village People, Dobie Gray, Shania Twain, Santana & Rob Thomas, Jimmy Buffett, Julie Andrews, Jose Feliciano, Lou Reed, Tommy James & the Shondells, Jo Dee Messina, Joe Cocker, Tommy Tutone, Dan Fogelberg, Thompson Twins, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Elmo & Patsy, Lou Bega, Brian Hyland, Michael Jackson, and Crosby, Stills & Nash. For starters.
My name is Spaff. (Yes, really.) I write stuff. Stuff like song parodies.
People occasionally record my stuff. Like, say, Robert Lund. If you've listened to the Dr. Demento Show in the past few years, you've probably heard Robert Lund. And, therefore, my stuff.
Spaff.com contains shloads of song parodies performed by Robert Lund and others - and lyrics to many more that are waiting to be performed by YOU. Robert also has his own website, which is (surprisingly) RobertLund.com.
Robert has numerous CDs under his belt (where he stores them to keep them warm), but my faves are the ones that contain my stuff:
Politicked Off! is a brand-new collection of songs for everyone who loves (or loves to hate) politics. Among its 15 tracks are seven that have been featured on the Dr. Demento Show - including the "Funny Five" hits "My Men's Room Date's a Senator," "Iranian Uranium," and "Here I Am With President Romney."
Elves Gone Wild! is our critically acclaimed (really!) Christmas collection featuring 16 almost-classics like "I Want Some Plastic Surgery for Christmas," "Nuttin' But Spam," and "Police Nabbed My Dad," plus four non-holiday bonus tracks including "Superfrog (It's Not Easy to Be Green)."
Workin' the Glory is our tribute to all things bright and Utah-ful. Its 16 songs include "Jell-o," "Living in the Maternity Ward," and "Man! I Feel Like a Mormon!" The Super-Duper Expanded Edition includes bonus track 17, "A Few of the Testimonies."
Tune in, turn on, rinse, repeat. And in the end, the love you take is equal to the square of the hypotenuse.
