I'd like to think me but there's definitely some Stanley Clarke, some Vic Wooten, some James Jamerson, some Alphonso Johnson and certainly some Jimmy Johnson.
Who am I? I still ask that most days. I'm a bass player in Atlanta Georgia. I primarily play 6 string fretted and 5 string fretless bass, though every now and then I play a 4 string to remember what it's like. You can see my basses in the background on this page...well, two of them are mine. The other two belong to another bass player that some of you might be familiar with. As a freelance player I'm fortunate to play with many different bands and musicians. Need bass? Just write! I'm lucky to have many friends and some of them are shown below. Hopefully I'll make many more here!
Impressive background of basses. Interesting you play 6,5, and 4 string bass. They each give such different tones, I wasn't aware until recently.
On my song 'I'm in the Danger Zone', my co-producer and right-arm guy who played most all the instruments, only had a 4 string bass. To get the 5 string sound, he had to stop and re-tune each time we got to the chorus. He said a real bass player would notice it was a 5 string, and those who knew it was a 4 string would wonder how we did that!!
