Steven's Interests
|
| General | Literary fiction, raising two sons, fantasizing that I'm still in shape enough to play ice hockey. | | Music | Dylan, Les Negresses Vertes, Cat Empire, Buddha Bar, The Pogues, Leonard Cohen, Can Morrison, UB40, Paul Simon, Toots & the Maytals, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Fiona Apple. Yeah, pretty eclectic. | | Movies | There's art film and entertainment film. Everybody draws there own line somewhere, and here's mine: either the filmmakers are presenting you with complete, well-rounded characters in a narrative that acknowledges human frailty and indecision (art) or they are wanking you off (entertainment). I don't know if you can tell from my response here, but I'm kind of oriented toward the former of these. Although my favorite movie of all time is AUSTIN POWERS: GOLDMEMBER, and I have been watching kids' movies exclusively for the past three years. | | Television | Nah. | | Books | Oh geez. This list could go on forever, and I'm trying to condense it at www.goodreads.com, where I've developed a profile. The verbiage in "movies" can pretty much carry over into books. | | Heroes | What does this word even mean anymore? |

About me:
I'm brand new to MySpace. Check out www.stevenwingate.com for the real scoop... I've been writing fiction for years, pecking away at the keyboard and getting pieces published here and there. But last summer I got lucky and won a very nice national fiction award, the Bakeless Prize from Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. This means that my first book WIFESHOPPING is coming out from Houghton Mifflin on July 1, 2008. So I can't just sit in my basement and write anymore, but need to get out and meet people in both analog and digital fashion. My website contains more information about me than many of you will want to know. If you are a long-lost friend, or a fellow literary soul, it would be great to hear from you.

Who I'd like to meet:
Bookworms: readers, writers, publishers, reviewers, bookstore folks. You know the type, especially if you are the type.
