Steven's Comedian Bio

| Bio | Karwoski graduated from Temple University in 1988 with a degree in radio, television and film, but like many seeking work in the entertainment business, he had to wait tables to pay the bills.
The Mayfair native needed a lifestyle change. He was waiting for the SEPTA Route 66 bus one day at the Frankford terminal. It was snowing, and his apartment had just been burglarized.
Karwoski thought of a friend in sunny California.
..I called and said, ..That..s it. I..m coming out,.. .. he said.
Karwoski, 38, lived in Los Angeles, but he now makes his home in San Francisco.
While seeking work in the performing arts, he was a substitute teacher in some tough L.A. public schools and still subs at San Francisco schools.
..Subbing is the best acting gig you can get,.. he said in a phone interview from his apartment. ..You can be Clint Eastwood for a day if you want to take that route...
Karwoski drove a truck, waited tables and worked for a film production company as he waited for his big break.
Students and teachers wondered why he didn..t just teach full time.
..I..ve got other fish to fry,.. he..d reply.
Eventually, he formed Other Fish to Fry Productions and developed a one-man show based on his blue-collar background. He honored his grandmother by titling the show, Are Ya Working? The Rants of a Post-Industrial Hybrid.
The show debuted in July 2001 in San Francisco and played throughout Canada in the summers of 2002 and 2003. |
