The Straggler is a heavily illustrated, DIY, Denver-based zine. Its content varies from informative to creative pieces to personal editorials or narratives. The tone and topics of these pieces vary widely as well - humorous, serious, reflective, cynical, analytical, entertaining, sometimes with social commentary. It was not meant to target a specific group of like-minded individuals; instead, it targets "the stragglers," who come from all walks of life.
Here is a piece from the first issue that will give you an idea of what it was really meant for:
A MANIFESTO OF SORTS
Casey Jeffers
From all walks of life, we're a little--maybe a lot--behind. We represent the socially awkward--the ones who know a joke's been told, but don't quite "get" it. And there seems to be a lot we don't "get." Figuratively speaking, we're the ones stopping to smell the flowers when we know there are priorities that should be higher. But prioritizing isn't our forte. We're "out of the loop" for the most part, but it's not like we find the loop all that gratifying to be a part of. Losers, maybe. Loners, probably. We're kind of sub par when considering most social norms.
But we don't need a battle cry: it would probably be out of sync if we even bothered in the first place. It's more like a need for comfort in being simply what we are--seeing a little differently, even existing a little differently.
So here's to progress at our own discretion. Here's to those flowers and to those stopping to enjoy them. Here's to the stragglers.
