Quotes
"...loose, Fall-informed drunkeness to their guitar-rock approach. They shout a little, grovel in riff-dirt a little, and sound happy to hoot while they shamble." - THE WIRE
"More than pretty damn unique, interesting...and, listen up - inventive. " - Sleazegrinder
"“Florida man shot by puppy” shouts the voice, lots of shouting about all kinds of things, literate bites of something, positive bass line repetition and a very solid sound. Fine nine tracks...Good band, challenging intelligent sound, well worth checking out." - ORGAN MAGAZINE
"Stray Dog Cafe aren't a band that sound like anyone of their influences - there is more than enough Stray Dog Cafe here to make this LP a fine debut in it's own right. I, for one, want to hear more bands taking this harder edge to their guitars. Highly recommended." - Indie MP3
"Noise-pop trio Stray Dog Café have an admirable range of influences and leftfield ideas…self-mocking really underplays the impressive level of imagination on board. " - Manchestermusic
"surrealist early to mid period Fugazi with a gruff Northern accent…some almost hiphopesque moments.
…solid underpinning gives the guitar and vocals free reign to meander off in whatever direction they feel like. The vocals range from spoken sections through vaguely Bob Dylan esque rap bits and various styles of singing.
…odd, but not wantonly so, there’s a lot of substance there too. It takes a few listens to appreciate, but it’s worth persevering…" - Die Shellsuit, Die!
"...like a punk-splattered council estate Faust. It's very dirty, remarkably addictive and when they start speeding everything up towards the end of the last tune there comes a point when you realise you can't dance any faster, even though you never noticed you were dancing in the first place." - Cath Aubergine
Stray Dog Cafe hail from the Northwest of England. Their unique approach to noise (aka 'Minimal-Dirt-Rock') leaving audiences entertained and bewildered in equal measure.
Drawing from the deep well of guitar music that has gone before reviewers have name dropped McClusky, Shellac, The Fall, Country Teasers and Truman's Water in an attempt to define what it is exactly that Stray Dog Cafe do.
The Minimal Dirt Rock Manifesto is the only comment the band will make.
Minimal - Because less is more!
Dirt - Because raw is better!
Rock - As in 'designed to wow'!'
Fat, incessant bass lines coupled with scathing, scratchy guitar riffs and complex jazz-rhythmic drumming have earned them a reputation as one of the best live bands in Manchester's underground scene.
Stray Dog Cafe have played with Part Chimp, James Chance, Oxes, Silver Apples, Blood Red Shoes and Youth Movies.
The release of a 7" vinyl single in 2007 (Maxamillion/THEME: from Warlock) got them a mention in WIRE magazine 280. and the album THE EXPERIMENT REQUIRES YOU TO CONTINUE is now available through UBiK records.
