"As the years have gone by, Styles Make Fights have maintained a powerful pop sensibility but they’ve gradually instilled it with something a little edgier and darker. This has given them an enticing extra dimension, and might be something to do with the addition of singer James, who gives a tetchy, agitated presence to their show. The energy embedded in the songs has always been one of their strengths. As usual, this is reflected in their delivery, which carries the assurance of a band who know that they have a consistently strong set. With every show that goes by, songs like ‘Not Around’. ‘Rita and Betty’ and ‘ Chauffeurs’ sound more and more like classics." musosguide.com
"It's strange they haven't been snapped up by now. Perhaps it's because there's more traditional bite here than Fututeheads or Maximo, with a steely Rival Schools edge to offset the ruddy big pop vocal. It's a beguiling combination of melody and power than, if too unsettling for the mainstream, makes them cult heroes, 8/10" Planet Sound's John Earls
"Styles Make Fights are a great band, they wouldn't be on my podcast if they weren't. They have the emotional edge to their music that grabs me straight off, but they do something a bit different and interesting with it. I like that it's slightly jerky, but not uncomfortably so and there's something about the basic guitar hook that just clicks in my belly when I hear it". Marsha Shandur, XFM
"Styles Make Fights have developed a knack for sharply-executed pop. They illustrated this flawlessly tonight, knocking out a stream of punchy three-minute songs in their light-speed half-hour set. What sticks in the mind most about tonight’s performance is the consistent strength of the songs. There wasn’t a wasted note or word in the whole set. After a handful of gigs, Styles Make Fights are already in an enviable position. They are building on strong foundations for the future, matching the potency of their songs with the energy-rush of their live set. If they can just keep their momentum going, I expect we’ll be hearing plenty more from them". Paul Brown, BBC Tyne
In the summer of 2009 we turned a decrepit VT suite in the old Tyne Tees Television building - the home of the 1980s music show “The Tube” - into a studio to record our debut EP "While You Can, When You're Young" and self-released it on the 16th November 2009.
We're influenced by Idlewild, Brand New and Saves The Day, amongst others, and try to blend perfectly structured pop with indie and punk rock in an unpretentious, heart on sleeve fashion. We like inverted chords, gay stage moves, nicking lyrics from poems and having a mint drummer. We hope you like it... it sounds better live though, you should come to a gig (or book us for one!) if you like what you hear.
Gentlemen, meant to say sooner - gig at Cluny 2 on 4 Nov was outstanding. Best I've seen you play. Nick didn't take any shit from slight technical glitch either (play Gibsons). Cheers. Later.
Wow thanks alot man! :) Glad you like em. I think were going to change our name because theres been a few people that think were going to be some crappy indie band because of our name.
If you know any gigs we can play, please let us know :)
I'm writing my Master's thesis on online marketing for musicians and bands. If you have 10 minutes left please take my survey at http://musicmate.net/survey (German version: http://musikfreund.com/umfrage) and support my work. I'd really appreciate it!
This will be the only Dartz gig anywhere until Easter 2009, so don't miss out! It'll also be their first gig in Newcastle as a four piece and what with it being Christmas, they'll be giving away a few presents, 'cause they're nice like that.
Support comes from Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire, fresh from their tour of Poland, and Hartlepool superstars Ankles, who are a bit like The Shins, but lower.
