SUNFLOW is the brainchild of two transatlantic songwriters Nancy Falkow (USA) and Fran King (IRELAND). Upon a chance meeting at a train station in Dublin, Ireland, Falkow and King became fast friends.
Fran King, native of Dublin, is a pop / rock artist with an internationally acclaimed debut album (“Beautification,” Head Space Records 2006) already under his belt, and a follow up album "My Sweet Elixir Vol.1" due for release in Spring 2009. Nancy Falkow is a native of Philadelphia (via New Jersey) currently based in Dublin, with three equally melodic albums already in her discography (Eponymous EP (1997), Smitten (2000), Clear View (2004.)
Having both recently become parents, the two had searched in vain to find music on the market to equal such wonderful records as Harry Nilsson's classic "The Point" and Carole King’s “Really Rosie.” They then decided to put together an album of their own-- music for parents and children to enjoy together-- and Sunflow shone.
A collection of timeless songs, with King and Falkow each contribituing 5 or so original tracks, "Under the Stars" was originally intended as a lullaby album, but the songs took on a life of their own. Drafted in to augment this project was Duncan Maitland (a fantastic solo artist in his own right with an impending album release "Lullabies for the 21st Century.") Sunflow live band member as well, Maitland is responsible for the production and recording and much of the seemingly effortless and elegant instrumentation. Having produced Fran's 2006 debut album & Colin Hare's (The Honeybus) recent e.p. he was the perfect man for the job.
Lush warm vocal arrangements woven in and out of acoustic guitars, strings and keys are the bed for each song. The result is an enchantingly refreshing album that celebrates childhood innocence & parenthood. “Under the Stars” is a must for any new parent, and lovers of melodic songs that brim with harmony.
