A une époque pas si éloignée, dans les années 60 et plus récemment dans les années 90, réalisateurs et musiciens se retrouvaient pour réaliser des films inspirés de thèmes musicaux qui eux-mêmes étaient inspirés de ces films. Vous suivez?
Kid Chocolat (le musicien) et Pascal Greco (le réalisateur) ont décidé de faire revivre cette idée en proposant "Super 8", un album-film concept. Alors que le premier apposait une musique et un rythme aux images du second, celui-ci adaptait son montage qui finissait par influencer à nouveau la composition musicale.
Le résultat? Un film réalisé en super 8 (évidemment) qui n'a subit aucun traitement, qui dégage une atmosphère chaude, contrastée, unique. La musique faite de sons bruts où s'entremêlent voix, guitares et synthétiseurs renforcent cet univers étrange.
Le spectateur se retrouve ainsi saisi par des petites vignettes autant psychédéliques que poétiques. On n'est pas loin du travail des Beatles en compagnie de Richard Lester ou encore de David Lynch et de son compositeur fétiche Angelo Badalamenti.
Plus qu'un disque, plus qu'un film, c'est un objet conceptuel décliné en mode DVD ou en mode CD (la B.O. plus quelques titres supplémentaires). Un objet fascinant qui se regarde autant qu'il s'écoute.
Ceux qui ont suivi Kid Chocolat depuis ses débuts connaissent bien ses goûts pointus pour le cinéma. Après un premier album sacré à Peter Sellers, le musicien a ensuite rendu hommage à Dario Argento, le maître italien des films d'horreur. Plus récemment, le Genevois s'est attaqué aux zombies, malmenant ces vilaines créatures dans un bal funky. Il avait aussi dirigé un album de reprises de Grauzone où s'étaient croisé la crème de l'électro suisse et française.
De son côté, Pascal Greco possède plus d'une corde à son arc et outre le montage et la réalisation, le Genevois excelle dans la photographie. Il a notamment publié un livre de photographie sur le Japon contemporain. Il oeuvre également comme VJ. Côté film, il s'est distingué par la réalisation de 2 documentaires, Swiss Fashion Design et Tokyo Streets, disponibles en DVD.

got together to make films inspired by music and vice versa.
Musician Kid Chocolat and filmmaker Pascal Greco have decided to bring
this idea back to life and to create " Super8 " , a concept soundtrack and
film. The first one composed music for the second's images who adapted his
montage which influenced again the musical composition. The result? A film shot
in Super8 (of course) without any digital alteration, that combines warm
atmosphere and modern vision.
The soundtrack is starkly and sparsely scored: guitars, vocals and synth are
used to emphasize this strange universe. The onlooker is confronted by a
tantalising glimpses of an enchantingly alien life-style. Super8 is more than
an album and more than a film, it’s a genuine concept. Available in both DVD
and CD. Look or listen or both, it's a fascinating modern artwork to
experience. Those who followed Kid Chocolat from the beginning know his taste for films. After a first ep dedicated to Peter Sellers, the musician composed a tribute to the italian horror master, Dario Argento. Recently he tried to make the zombies dance in a funky ballroom with his album « Zombiparti ! ». He also compiled several swiss and french artists in a tribute album to Grauzone. Pascal Greco is a filmmaker, a vj and a photographer. He published his first photographs book about Japan « Kyoshu, nostalgie du pays» in 2007 and directed critically acclaimed films such as « Swiss Fashion Show » and « Tokyo Streets », both available on DVD.
