I am a japanese Producer / Composer / Label owner / DJ / Catalyzer.
My musical odyssey started in the mid 80's when I founded a rock band as a vocalist / rhythm guitarist with 3 other boys in Tokyo at age 19. We were strongly influenced by new wave and punk. After our 1st indie album, We signed with a major record label releasing 2 albums and continually touring . For nearly 7 years , gigging and rehearsing relentlessly and I learnt the basic skills on not only guitar but also bass, drums, synthesizer , even accordion !!
After all the endless rehearsals and tours, by the 90's I'd had enough and quit the band . Soon after I started teaching myself how to program and produce music with a computer . This was fun! Finally I had a spaceship with me in the captains seat ! It was around 1993 and after releasing one solo album with an acid jazz/break beats/trip hop feel on another major record label , by 1997, My music started showing a stronger techno influence with a psychedelic twist. Also in the same period I started DJ-ing .. Oh yes ... I'm also one of those bloody DJs .
Early 2000- I moved my base from Tokyo to the UK. In 2001, I began the Techno-Psy/ Progressive trance / Dub-downtempo unit "ZEN LEMONADE" with producer Gus Till . Our first album was released on UK's legendary producer Youth's label DRAGONFLY RECORDS in 2002 and received critical acclaim. Since then I've been on many dance/chillout compilations as Zen Lemonade and also as a solo artist. ( If you want more info about Zen Lemonade, Please check my top friends. we are there )
I had played not only in clubs but also at many big festivals through out Europe , U.S.A, Australia , Japan, Mexico, Thailand , etc , and shared unforgettable moments with colorful freaks ... Even after the years, those are the still big inspiration source for me ...
In 2002 september, after all this the non stop traveling , I had moved and set up a new base on the "Island of Gods", BALI . I totally fell in love with this amazing place's magnificent charm , the unique hindu culture of this magical island and all of it's music, arts and mystical natural depth. In ancient times, we japanese believed that 8 million gods lived in nature . And in Bali , I can feel these millions of spirits are everywhere even now and its a constant inspiration for me .
In 2005, I founded my own record label "Hypo=Espresso Records" to release my kind of electronic music as well as the creations of my friends from all over the world. Music and the label is my life's work..it doesn't matter how much stuff I release per year..its like lifelong surfing..I just simply want to enjoy the ride when a wave comes ...and expand my cosmic family and playground all over the planet via music.
I am totally addicted to digging my own invention in my secret laboratory .. where I'm like a mad japanese scientist. Sometimes I feel like I'm some female version of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Dick Van Dyke! (Not really sexy isn't it? Whoops.) Anyway..I've a bit of a short temper sometimes and blow my rockets off for fun. Yeah, I am a total Otaku Girl .
My DJ-style is a mix of deep & driving progressive & tech-house, dirty & acidy electro with a psychedelic spice. I also absolutely love to play alternative chillout sets .. kinda 'balearichedelic', a juicy fusion of dub and cooldown beats with a spoonful of retro flavour -anything from old exotica to Led Zeppelin , Jose Feliciano , Herbie Hancock and anything inbetween might be thrown into the mix because its my way to express my respect for all human musical history!
I love the people who aren't afraid to express themselves. It doesn't matter what tools they use to catalyse their own world .. music, painting, graphics, photography, fire dancing & performance, cooking or gardening or making wine or being a killer bondage queen or whatever, but just not making bombs or somethig , please! I don't believe that's any kind of "expression" method at all. There are many other ways to being yourself.
Currently I am busy as a mother of 2 children, running the label, composing music and doing music -consultancy for high profile establishments and fashion labels and films. I'm also highly active as a DJ & as a live act in clubs, high-end venues, festivals ... keep traveling around .... keep expressing ..... keep creating .......
