all extraordinary things come to an end. talk engine as it was is no longer recording or gigging (shit, you might have noticed, it's been a while).
i've moved to new digs on my space -- please come visit and friend me at www.myspace.com/jackiesheeler - that's where new tracks are being uploaded, gigs are being listed, and art is being perpetrated. leaving the old bio up here for strictly sentimenal reasons!
Talk Engine, an east coast band formed in 2003, is fronted by Jackie Sheeler, an award-winning songwriter and activist who has recently been named the Poet Laureate of Rikers Island due to her volunteer work with young prisoners in NYC. The band has one single and one full-length CD that you can still buy on CDbaby, iTunes, and Amazon.
Jackie and the band have headlined at major east coast venues and performed live on national radio stations such as NPR and WBAI. The band was once characterized in this way: "if Lou Reed & Patti Smith had coupled, the result might be something like the rocking and raw Jackie Sheeler." We've also been compared to Cake, the Doors, and Marianne Faithfull.
After a recent performance, NYC club impresario Bob Holman said Talk Engine cooks, burns and blistersa riot of words and music and sheer sound energy. If you ain't dancing by the end of a set, it's cause you're flying.
I'd like to tell you about a Tim Buckley Song Session in Bath UK. Ash mandrake and James Hoolingsworth will be performing some of his songs with their bands as part of The Fringe Festival.

Sundown Lounge is a laid back (and often explicit, you bet your ass...) weekly podzine of music, spoken word, progressive politics, weird science, and occasional vignettes from the west coast open mic scene, etc. Physically, I'm in rapidly gentrifying downtown Los Angeles, but metaphysically, my toes are in the sand and the sun is ablaze with deep hues, and a few poets and musicians and scientists have dropped by my beach house to hang out and jam, as the surf whispers nearby...The Open Mic Stage accepts spoken word and music files for play. : Hear "A True Liberator" on Friday's Archived Podcast:
Other news and goings on: 10K is accpeting submissions from poets to feature in our BLOG. If this is of interest to you, please send your poem in as a comment, in the form, with title, author, etc. We will do the rest.
Whether you believe that the sky has been invaded by umpalumpas, or that there is a more rational explanation for the appearance of snow, I hope you enjoy the poetry and opera in "FLAKE'S THEME".
