Talk In Code have a bright, positive sound that shows light and shade with tonnes of atmosphere!
Combining influences such as Doves, Morning Runner, Ride and U2, the melodies boast anthemic, charismatic attitude! These are underpinned by fizzy, solid rhythms to stunning effect. Keyboards and soaring guitars lend bundles of atmosphere whilst subtleties keep the listener engaged!
Lead Singer, Chris Stevens, explains "the songs are forged around an emotion based theme and how we all deal with what life throws at us differently".
Since the band formed in May 2007, they have quickly established themselves as a popular live act. They've played a whole host of shows across the south of England, supporting mainstream bands including Captain and Idlewild. Their EP Launch Night at Swindon's 12Bar attracted over 200 people! prior to this successful event, the band were seen selling-out shows in Newbury, Camden's Barfly and the Clapham Grand in London. Not to mention building up a fanbase as far afield as Southend-on-sea!
In the summer of 2008, Talk In Code were asked to headline the Swindon Shuffle festival, which showcased over 40 local bands, in 6 music venues across Swindon, which has a rapidly growing music scene. "The Shuffle" saw more than 1,000 people through the doors over the weekend. The band followed this up a month later by headlining the Swindon Shuffle stage at the Sugarhill Festival (Other headline acts included The Young Knives).
With a number of radio appearances consisting of Brunel Fm's "Frequency", Swindon 105.5's "Late Gig", GWR FM's "Music Control" and BBC Wiltshire's “Underground” (Introducing) shows, the ambition for 2009 is regular airplay on Radio 1. With strong songs like "Dry Emotion" and "Not How It Seems", it surely won't be long before they achieve it!
"They manage to mix a commercial, radio friendly sound with well structured, multi-layered music. Here in particular they move between memorable riff-hooks and smooth vocal deliveries with ease. Harmonious enough for mass consumption yet clever enough to raise themselves above most melodic rock and revealing an almost country vibe to their lead guitar playing, this is a band that I need to spend a bit more time getting to know". Dave Frankin - Green Man Music
"Few bands sound as polished on their debut demos as Talk in Code. Sounding like an amped up Keane after a night on the lash with the Chili Peppers (could Tom Chaplin manage that without a rehab trip? We’ll leave that to your imagination…), their demo CD may be only three tracks long, but they manage to fit in all of their strengths (and a few weaknesses as well for good measure)". Phil Singer - There Goes The Fear
"Talk In Code seem to be taking a musical road which is, thankfully, not simply indie and not purely rock - Talk In Code have a lovely jaunty nu-country/rock feel which is not only refreshing to hear but also pretty commercial and certainly damn catchy. Their compositions are bold, well thought out and beautifully rounded with a great modern twist on what could loosely be described as indie with underlying 'country/rock' tendencies". Peter J Brown - Toxic Pete
"They have a commercial sound with an alternate edge". Rich Craven
Easier To Lie Music Video
Making a convincing music video on a budget is a real test of everyones skills. No matter what big ideas or imaginative designs you may have, the reality is that most of those ideas can't be backed up by the time, money and ultimately equipment needed to do them justice. The bottom line is that local band videos fall pretty much into two categories. Animation and live performance. Seven Years On proved that animation videos can be very effective but Talk In Code decided to take the other option as a promotional tool for Easier to Lie and thanks to the skills of the guys at playdead media have ended up with something rather good.
Mixing footage from live shows with studio antics and a dash of countryside rambling, the video is a very watchable and effective piece. Short edits make for a nice flow and there are interesting contrasts between the almost sepia washed live shots and the more vibrant outdoor scenes. Musically, the song neatly encapsulates what Talk In Code do so well, a big, anthemic sound, but one that achieves its desired results through a deft layering of instruments rather than by just laying on the volume. All in all, both musically and visually, a great little package.
Cheers for the add lads! saw u guys supporting Captain earlier in the year! Dry Emotion is a sick track tbh!
its always good to hear some positivity! we've been playing round swindon for a few months now! playing live is the easy part! its getting the recordings to sound like u want thts hard lol!
