At the ~~SS~~, we listen to and review a ton of music everyday. Even though we are one of the few stations playing unsigned or indie bands, most never make it on the air. It’s not that we are anything special, but our listeners are! They know what they want!
Case in point Tarsha. Sheldon has been around along time. We have seen it all come and go and it takes a lot to impress the gang here at the ~~SS~~. Enter: IMPRESSED! Sheldon Tarsha is one of those gifts from the Rock Gods that, when you hear him, you just know the Gods are throwing up the old horns right in your face. Crank it to 11, and if you still don’t get it, you need to grab your Ipod and go back to listening to whatever crap is on it ;+)
Like we said, we have seen and heard it all, and the impeccable attention to detail that Tarsha exhibits is rare. Sonic brilliance is rare, and so is real talent, both of which are in abundance here! Tarsha is what the ~~SS~~ is all about. Thanks Sheldon for giving us... PROPHECIES!
Buy the album today and receive special offers like backstage passes, limited-run shirts, autographed posters, and more! Thank you for supporting true independent music! Please come back and visit often!!
Modern Pop culture is filled with supposed experts who's only goal is to come up with cutesy catch phrases designed to make people feel better. One of the most common is the classic "take lemons and make lemonade". For most, it's a silly ideology which ends up false; a proverb who's reality is that bad breaks in life are those that ruin a person's chance to rise up from the awful circumstances of their life. But every once in a great while, there is someone that proves you can harness the energy of every bad situation possible, focus it into your craft, and turn it into something which is, far and away, stronger and better than the masses of half-hearted beings that do little more than slow the world down.
Introducing Tarsha!
In a world where life is defined by the "Yin" and the "Yang" of one's existence, Tarsha has had a lot of "Yin" which he's compartmentalized and used to drive his now burgeoning creative outpouring. For Tarsha, growing up was little more than a series of foster homes and being bounced around between parents that seemingly didn't want him around. His family battled everything from financial issues to drug addiction. Instead of lashing out, Tarsha quietly took it all in; quietly becoming creative within his mind while hoping that at some point he would end up in a better place. Tarsha focused on the spirituality of his own self.
Like most, the struggle of childhood carried over into adulthood with Tarsha, but a glimmer of hope emerged when he discovered that mixed into the horror of his life was a gift that so few possess. That gift is undying drive. An early decision was made that the only end goal to Tarsha's life would be creating music to be heard by the masses, and that there was no limit to what would be done to achieve that. It was a hard road. Tarsha worked on his craft daily, writing music, playing it all himself, and never doing anything that wasn't focused on "making it". In fact, Tarsha actually survived from day to day by entering Karaoke contests around Los Angeles in order to make the few sheckles needed to survive. Throughout it all, Tarsha continued to harness his talent and work toward his dream.
For a moment, that dream seemed to be realized. In 2005, Tarsha was contacted by Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler and asked to front his off-shoot band, Adler's Appetite. It was Tarsha's first chance at playing in front of massive audiences, and he took full advantage of it. Night after night, show after show, it was Tarsha that was heralded as the breakout star. He quickly was recognized as a vocal prodigy who's talent far outshined the material he was singing. Yet, just as things were taking off for Tarsha, the unpredictable Adler did what he's best known for and abandoned the project mid-tour; leaving the band stranded in a foreign country.
For some people, this would have been the end. This would have been the embarrassing situation that pushed a budding professional musician out of the business and into an office job. But Tarsha is far more than a budding musician. The Adler situation proved to Tarsha that his talent was limitless, and that there was an audience out there hungry for what he had to offer. Upon returning home, Tarsha poured all of his creative energy into his first solo album PROPHECIES. The energy and outpouring of ideas was fast and furious. Not only did Tarsha write all the songs for PROPHECIES in a matter of days, but the self-motivated artist played all the music himself, self-recorded it, packaged it, mailed it, and even made each and every phone call needed to try to get someone, ANYONE, to give it a listen. And people did listen. PROPHECIES was marketed primarily to a budding new audience of music lovers - Internet Radio. Within only a few weeks, PROPHECIES became a worldwide Internet Radio hit; charting on the Internet charts for well over a year on the strength of it's powerful music, catchy melodies and "real" emotion that was captured.
Not content with the success of PROPHECIES, Tarsha returned to the studio and almost immediately repeated his emotional outpouring. The problems of his youth and his life have opened flood gates creatively, with his latest release, DIVINE UNIVERSE, coming together in a matter of days instead of months or years. All the pain. All the struggle. All of it forced its way out creatively, and the results are staggering. Again writing, singing and playing all the instruments, DIVINE UNIVERSE is proof positive that Tarsha is not only a gifted musician, but one of the best artists ever at harnessing the pain from one's soul and exorcising those demons in bursts of creative genius.
Tarsha's latest release is in your hands now. Listen to it. Feel it.
Relate to it. Find your way into Tarsha's Divine Universe. It's a pretty bright place; especially when you consider how dark its beginnings were. Tarsha's "Yang" is out in full force.
Rock,
Chris Akin
