| General | London’s old time tattoo studio’s are another of the dark mysterious places where the more interesting elements of society tend to gravitate to. The historic parlours kept running by the unsung heroes of tattooing’s underworld. The scary old bully boys who fought the war that paved the way for the ungrateful new school of ‘One trick tattooers’ that fashion finds favourable. There’s not too many ‘Old timers’ shops left. As the pioneering practitioners of the once rebel art die away, they are replaced by internet inkers, e-bay enthusiasts with conveyer belt cool, off the peg attitude, short memories & shiny machines. Their downloaded knowledge diluted & distributed to apprentices by ‘artists’ who don’t yet have the calloused hands of the long serving old schooler. Or the bullshit detecting brain that will have forgotten more than they will ever know. Their lack of experience decorates their blank walled anonymous ‘art’ studios. Where your dream can be interpreted & pinned to your skin forever. The artists interpretation will differ from yours. But you’re sure to grow to love the part of the ego that is left behind as the artistic wandering spirit & the tax man take them to another stint in another backroom in another town. Unfinished business for the next electric ego to sort out. But stroll down a long leafy residential road in North London’s Muswell hill & you’ll find the most unique old time tattoo parlour of the lot. Years of hard earned experience & tattoo dues well & truly paid.
Lal Hardy’s New Wave Tattoo. Long established & much respected among the tattoo community due to it’s larger than life proprietor. A legend in his own loony time. This was the place Billy Idiot called tattoo home. It could hardly be called ’work’ as nobody looked forward to going to work. |
