A conglomeration of different elements including jazz, rock, and experimental/electronica sounds. The album Outline Of A Cloud is the freshman effort of Techniquelle, with authenticity as the underlying theme uniting the songs together. The lyrics and melodic ideas unfold in a raw and non-patronizing manner, subject matter variegating from wrong first impressions to finding someone in the universe to relate and connect to. Written with an earnest need for honesty, truth, and clarity in life, Techniquelle's debut album is a soothing one that packs a few punches as she questions significance beyond the physical here and now.
Techniquelle began writing her music at the malleable age of 16. While always having a hand and foot in the world of music growing up, she mostly played written piano compositions and haphazardly joined in her local high school orchestra playing the violin. Introduced to the guitar at 16, she had an instant affinity for it and began to compose her own music. Pretty soon, she began to perform in public, and although raised shy in nature and inclination, she found a liberation in the expression and experience of music. To Techniquelle, music is a medium in which to communicate, connect, and ultimately enhance our understanding of existence and human experience and community.
"I just want to write good music," she often simply offers. Influences include primarily Radiohead, Bjork, and KT Tunstall.
Techniquelle's love for creativity and technique are apparent in the songs in the debut album. "Lullaby For One," a song written in the subtly asymmetrical time signature of 5/8, returns to a resolved 6/8 and explores an incompleteness, a sensation of breaking relations with another person. With jazz chords and melodic vocalizations, "So Wrong" sounds completely different from any of the songs on the album and explores the relief of discovering a better person than the one behind a wrong first judgment. "Outline Of A Cloud" and "Across The Universe" are two added songs with electronica and experimental elements that express the understanding that life has meaning beyond what is apparent in everyday life and how the search for someone to truly connect to seems like plunging into an infinity of uncertainty. "Rosetta Stone" is the most rock-infused song in the group with a soaring and disconcerted electric guitar to question meaning in pain and suffering. The accordion touches in "I Adore" and the subtle reggae-feel of "Better Way" all carve out a space and environment to the songs themselves that give them life and a heart-felt earnestness.

Techniquelle had her CD released at IOTA Club & Cafe located near the Washington D.C. area on August 31, 2009. Her live performances largely feature her electronic Korg Kaossilator "funbox" touchpad strapped to her left leg and her bell-like voice and warm, resonating, flame-maple guitar.
“There are so many hammocks to catch you if you fall, so many laws to keep you from experience. All these cities I have been in the last few weeks make me fully understand the cozy, stifling state in which most people pass through life. I don't want to pass through life like a smooth plane ride. All you do is get to breathe and copulate and finally die. I don't want to go with the smooth skin and the calm brow. I hope I end up a blithering idiot cursing the sun - hallucinating, screaming, giving obscene and inane lectures on street corners and public parks. People will walk by and say, "Look at that drooling idiot. What a basket case." I will turn and say to them "It is you who are the basket case. For every moment you hated your job, cursed your wife and sold yourself to a dream that you didn't even conceive. For the times your soul screamed yes and you said no. For all of that. For your self-torture, I see the glowing eyes of the sun! The air talks to me! I am at all times!" And maybe, the passers by will drop a coin into my cup.”

Great tunes the past couple weeks at Iota, Joanne! I really dig your originals and your covers, the Radiohead tune this week was pretty rad, as was your cover of Derek's song "Doormat", I will adminit, I'm a bit jealous as I've been meaning to learn one of Derek's songs for months now and haven't gotten off my lazy behind and done it yet, great job! Lookin' forward to your show on March 11th!
