Keith Olbermann, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart & The Colbert Report, ...and, if I'm up in time, traditional Sunday morning news shows (more unfunny ones) like This Week With George S., Face the Nation, etc.. ........FROM THE PAST: Twin Peaks, Key West, Northern Exposure (early years), Picket Fences, Salvage One, Max Headroom, Dangermouse, Queer as Folk, The Office (early British).
Heroes
OOOkay... My heroes are the low-wage working class, who do, for the lowest pay and the worst conditions, jobs no one could pay me ENOUGH to do. -The service industry people who often are treated like second-class citizens. ("What? You want to be PAID to be out sick?! Why, you make less than $10/hr: you don't GET benefits.") Maybe it's the "Mon-Fri, air-conditioned, take-the-afternoon-off-cause-it's-so-nice, 4-day-weekend-for-a-holiday" office job that should get $10/hr. And the person who leaves a manual-labor job at 5pm, exhausted, hustling to get to their second job as a janitor til 10pm, when they get to go home to see their families: maybe that should bring in the $70-$120k a year. -Skilled trades people, who are the backbones of our infrastuctures both publicly and in our homes, who have bucked the elitist push that says you're a failure if you don't go to college & grad school, that you might be looked at as inferior. ("Shazamm, give her a soapbox; she's on a ROLL!")
About me: Clink ... here for temples of grey’s fotki photo site ...PHOTOS… PHOTOS… PHOTOS… PHOTOS… PHOTOS…! I’ve begun posting photos from shows at temples of grey’s fotki photo site (http://www.FOTKI.com/TEMPLESofGREY). .. (9/08: If you have extra coins you want to pass my way so I can continue to do this, you're welcome to PayPal me those jangling nickels, dimes, and quarters to betsy’s email . Eeee!, honestly! It's my try at passing the hat!).. Often now, I’m posting a lot of photos I’d normally have edited a bit -cropped, lightened, darkened, sharpened, etc.- and photos I’d have culled, selecting the best of that type photo. But since that takes so much time, I’m putting up a LOT from a show. I LIKE seeing tons of photos! And rather than set the viewing to private and have it just for myself or the band, I’m keeping access open. ..
VIDEOS... VIDEOS... VIDEOS... VIDEOS... VIDEOS...! I often video some of the music I see and hear with my oh-so amateur digital cameras. They're posted, some here on myspace, and others on YouTube at betsy’s YouTube page (http://www.YouTube.com/betsybetsybetsy ). Check my blog for a catalog of hundreds and hundreds I've shot and posted. Anyone who wants a bad video taken down (&, hey, there are lots to choose from!) can send me a few $50's, and I'll see if I can make them disappear. For the rest of you, I hope you enjoy them for what they are: really amateur, hand-held shots from some of the shows I get to. I hope you'll enjoy seeing musicians singing/playing, how they move, nuances, crowds and energy in the venue, etc. etc. They're all wonderful people with loads of talent!!! Look in my blog for the most recent alphabetized list of what’s posted...
IN GENERAL... -Getting back into local indie music. -Love to laugh ("ahHAHAHAHA!!!" See, I told you so!) Quick-witted. -Also like cultivating my dry, slightly-acerbic wit. Love the sarcastic humor of Dorothy Parker. But, hey, Jon Stewart: yeah, he's good! I love to be around creative people! Positive is good too! Love to brainstorm and problem solve. Good at marketing. I'd rather work positively for change than damn the system. I'm a nurturer. ...And a perfectionist (hey, I'm a Virgo: what can I say!) Oh: an ENTP or ENFP. ... Hummm... I'll think on this and add more later, okay?
Hey Lady! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend!! Come by the Local 506 tonight if you get the chance! Western Civ will be playing at 9PM sharp!! :) I am filling in for the "rotating fourth" so I'll be playing the full show with them this time, and honestly I could use the moral support! The stage still weirds me out a bit!! Talk Soon! -Misty
yeah, we're pretty excited about it. it should be a lot of fun. please come out if you can, we'd love to see you there. I'm sure you'll be at the cradle tonight though.
thanks betsy, and thanks for all the support you have given to us in spirit and at our extremely unrehearsed shows. i have been doing a lot of revamping, replanning and reorganizing the way that ECC will move forward. it is just the struggle of finding members who are as enthusiastic as myself. one weak person and it will crumble, so i am taking my time and not forcing myself to bring it all back until it seems right
Many thanks for coming to see us last Sunday at FUSE.
We love the causal relaxed vibe of our regular last-Sunday-of-the-month shows there. Such a warm, easy-going place: it's like hanging out playing music in a friend's living room. Makes us really comfortable trying out new things, pushing the edge, exploring...
Really glad you were there to share the moment with us.
I'm so glad you liked it! I had a lot of fun playing with those guys. I can't say enough about how much it changed me and my playing. It was definitely the right band at the right time.
It's funny you should say that, because the boys of LI were just having a conversation about yourself and how we haven't seen you in awhile. Can't wait to see you at the upcoming shows, and I hope all is well with you!
Yea, I think we are all planning on going to the Mono/Maserati show. We sent the 506 an email about 1 1/2 months ago inquiring about possibly opening for the show, but we got no response, so we just plan on attending and having a great night. See you there!
Pelican = Epic Glad I was able to turn someone on to their music. They're amazing. You should come see them next time they're in town, I know I'll be there! I'm doing a lot of show hopping tonight, so I'll probably see you at some point in the evening. Joe
Thanks so much Betsy. Those great pictures you took help;) I've been working on it lately to get ready for our release. So it's nice to know that people are still checking it out. See you soon
