Nothing remains static. Interim, Temporary Basement's third CD, is a perfect example. From songs that jump from left to right like
a hyper FM radio, down to the cover art with frantic circles, Interim is about change.
Recording for Interim furiously began at the end of 2006 in Mike's home studio. There were a number of challenges to recording, including the departure of founding bassist Erik Ulsaker, who contributed songwriting and playing. Final tracking and mixing took place with JP Maheu, who helmed Subscribing To My Youth.
Interim's subjects range from lyrics belying the uncertainty of growing up and not feeling absorbed, to the fight to keep in touch of your friends and yourself (Badfriend), of failed connections and longing (If You Ask), and of promises finally kept (Rescind). The sound of the record varies as well. Hallways is a balance between the tense and angular guitars of Fugazi and the sweetness of Oasis. Fluster fuses Emil's skittery raggae beat with a flamenco style outro. Mike's high and instantly recognizable voice remains on display on songs like
Holdover and Laguna Beach.
As the band blurs the line between power pop, emo, ska and other points in between, they continue to challenge themselves and their listeners while remaining anchored in the classic pop of the Beach Boys and Beatles they grew up with. After many years in the Washington DC scene, Temporary Basement still love playing out and being part of the visceral feeling that comes from making and listening to music.

Q: Another FAQ? Whyyyyyy?
EMIL: I know, I know. But people seem to love these things.
Q: Where are you from? What's the story?
MIKE: Me and Emil grew up in Woodbridge, although we spent our childhood in the Philippines.
Q: What can we do to help?
EMIL: You know how it is. It's one thing for a band to say it's worth your time, it's another for your best friend to tell you he decided to laser burn the logo into the back of his neck. (DONT DO THIS) You know what I'm sayin. To help rep us, you can:
Make us a Top Friend [email: us@temporarybasement.com]
Add [tempbase] to the end of your display name. I've heard this is the new hotness.
Post a bulletin about us to your crew. We make the best cookies, you saw Emil punch a bear, whatever.
Add our banner to your page. Or, even make us a new one, and we'll post it!
Make one of our songs your profile song. Any will do.
Send your friends our link or mp3s.
Burn CDRs and hand em to anybody that will listen. (Email us and we'll send you 4 mp3s of whatever you want)
Put our stickers everywhere! (Except where you and me can go to cruel butt grabbing prison.)
Help us get to where we're going. It's not just our band, it's yours too.
Q: How can I be one of your top friends?
EMIL: We see you enough at the shows, or you help us get the word out, then you'll see your face up.
Q: Where can I get the words? There's too much mumbling!
MIKE: Most of them should be on www.lyricwiki.org. Except for the maybe some of the older ones that I'm too embarrassed to address.
Q: Where can we buy cds and merch anyway?
MIKE: Go to www.cdbaby.com/tempbase or Itunes to find our jams.
Anybody have other questions? Just drop us a line!
me and the boys have a podcast strictly for underground artists. when you submit, we'll play your song on our show for all of our listeners, and give our opinions and ideas on it. we'll read your bio for you so the world can get to know you a bit and we'll even shout out if you got a tour coming up or an album or ep dropping soon and let people know where to find you or where they can watch you perform. it's a critique show by some goofy dudes that will give you exposure and promote your projects. hit me back if you are interested.
