THE THING WE DO FOR LOVE .. >.......... .. .. .. .. ....> This is the only 10cc page on myspace run by the band (kinda) and we would welcome your comments and friendship. So here's a quick bio to remind you why your here …………………………………………………………………........................................................ British art-pop band 10cc comprised an all-star roster of Manchester-based musicians: vocalist/guitarist Graham Gouldman was a former member of the Mockingbirds and the author of hits for the Yardbirds, the Hollies, Herman's Hermits and Jeff Beck; singer/guitarist Eric Stewart was an alum of Wayne Fontana & the Mindbenders; and vocalists/multi-instrumentalists Kevin Godley and Lol Creme were both highly regarded studio players. Formed in 1970, 10cc began as a session unit dubbed Hotlegs; after establishing residence at Stewart's Strawberry Studios, Hotlegs scored a surprise U.K. smash with the single "Neanderthal Man," subsequently issuing an LP, Thinks: School Times and touring with the Moody Blues. …………………………………………………………………........................................................ After signing to Jonathan King's U.K. label and rechristening themselves 10cc (a name suggested by King himself), the group backed Neil Sedaka before recording 1972's "Donna," a sly satire of late-'50s doo wop. The single reached the number two position on the British charts, establishing not only a long-running string of major hits, but also the quartet's fondness for ironic and affectionate reclamations of musty pop styles. The follow-up, "Rubber Bullets," topped the charts in 1973, and both the subsequent single "The Dean and I" (a nostalgic look at academia recalling Jerry Lee Lewis' "High School Confidential") and an eponymously titled debut LP further solidified 10cc as a major force in British pop. ………………………………………………………………........................................................ While 1974's Sheet Music and singles, including the Brian Wilson-esque "Wall Street Shuffle," "Silly Love" and "Life Is a Minestrone" continued 10cc's dominance of the U.K. charts, they found the American market virtually impenetrable prior to the release of 1975's "I'm Not in Love," which topped the charts at home, climbed as high as number two in the States, has been covered no less than 63 times to date and has been voted by various international polls as one of the greatest songs of all time. After 1975's Original Soundtrack and the next year's How Dare You!, Godley and Creme exited to focus on video production as well as developing the Gizmo, a guitar modification device the duo invented. In the wake of their departure, Gouldman and Stewart continued on alone, to record 1977's Deceptive Bends, highlighted by the perennial "The Things We Do for Love." which followed there biggest tour to date with all musicians that would eventually be fully creditted band members. …………………………………………………………………........................................................ After recruiting guitarist Rick Fenn, keyboardist Tony O'Malley and drummer Stuart Tosh as full-time members in 1977, 10cc began a major tour across Europe and returned in 1978 with Bloody Tourists, which yielded the number one reggae nod "Dreadlock Holiday' having now sold over 8 million copies. …………………………………………………………………....................................................... In 1980 came 10cc's biggest ever tour of Europe on the back of the successful 'Look Hear' which included writing credits for Rick Fenn and Duncan McKay for the first time. After came 1981's 10 out of 10 which originally started off as a slow seller but has now sold over 1 million copies. In 1983 came a calypso style 'windows in the jungle' which is also highly regarded and critically acclaimed. After 1995's Mirror Mirror which included writing credits for Paul McCartney and many others. ……………………………………………………………….......................................................... Many Millions of albums later 10cc release Greatest Hits and More which includes tracks by Godley & Gouldmans new project and songs Graham wrote including 'For Your Love and No Milk Today' Also there is hits from the hotlegs era and Grahams other 80's success Wax. 10cc are to release a DVD of the 2007-08 tour Clever Clogs out very soon. …………………………………………………………………........................................................ Enjoy and we hope to see you all at a show soon.

You guys were fantastic, got the records and seen you live many times. What about a reunion and I see the studios still there but now its offices. Can be converted back though? Would thrill me to bits if you find time to take a listen to my songs too. Thanks for all of it, Tom

Watched Clever Clogs last night - the bit about how the songs came about. Liked what Graham said about people talking to him after concerts, and about babies being conceived (???) to 10cc songs. I think I just said something about how much I'd enjoyed the concert.

Well, my twin daughters were born to the sound of "I'm in love with my car", Queen, could have been worse, could have been "Tie your mother down"!!!! Now I've re-discovered 10cc since my teenage heyday in the 70's, I wish they'd been born to "Life is a Minestrone"!!! Brilliant live. Hope to see them a couple of times again in the summer, definitely Alnwick, shame they are supporting Status Quo.....

  • Paul Young

Paul Young was born in South Manchester in 1947. He was singer of the 60’s beat band The Toggery Five and then later with Sad Café, which had several hit singles in the 70’s and 80’s including the top ten hit Every Day Hurts. In 1985 Paul joined Mike Rutherford “Genesis” to become a full-time member of Mike & The Mechanics, and remained with the band until his untimely death in 2000. Unfinished material has recently been recovered from his home studio and is now available for the first time ever on CD and MP3. The New album titled “Paul Young Chronicles” will be released in March 2011, and the New single “Your Shoes” written by Paul Young and Mike Rutherford is out now which means that for Paul Young fans everywhere, the dream is still very much alive! The album features Mike Rutherford, Paul Carrack, Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart of 10cc as well as all the band members of Sad Café.
