praise for Staying Places, so far!
"Shows off Wilson's skills behind the mixing desk as much as his songwriting ability...sleek guitar lines and deft changes of gear...breezy, wistful songs [that] share high-end production values with power pop bands like the Shins."
-Exclaim!
"Surprising and inventive songs that will mature greatly over multiple listens... [Wilson has] an astounding ear for song crafting. This is a spotless, near-perfect release. Maybe I've just fallen in love with it, but I can see this album staying just as strong over time as it is now."
- The Line of Best Fit (UK)
"...One of Wilson's most inspired projects to date...there's a softness to [the songs] that makes you want to listen to this album over and over again." SoundProof Magazine
"Lyrics float introspectively over dreamlike music...Simple melodies over excellent arrangements; this is great stuff."
- Bridging the Atlantic
"Staying Places is looking like an album that will turn a lot of heads."
-Herohill
"A distinctive pioneering spirit...That's The Spirit appears to have genuinely embraced a quiet determined-plodding-forward kind of hopefulness, which lends their music this uplifting quality...'Staying Places' is a delightful album, which has captured something of today's Zeitgeist."
-
Two Way Monologues
"Gentle, melodic, mind-massages. Listen and drift slowly into a womb-like comfortable slumber."
-
A New Band A Day (UK)
"Hazy folk-inspired tunes which feel just as much as home in your dreams as they would as a hearty meal-soup...very comforting."

Hi! Staying Places is a travel-themed album, made 'for explorers and armchair travellers alike'... It was inspired by misadventures as much as adventures. Getting lost in a forest at midnight on a 5-day trek through southern England...Trying impossibly to walk out of cities...The very act of travel and the need to escape...
Thanks for listening. You can read this if you like.

That was a great set at Rancho Relaxo. A mystical journey that blends traditional roots-folk with swirly neo-psych atmospherics. A boundary-crossing excursion designed to sooth, seduce, and sonically move you.
