Well, it has been YEARS getting this off the ground but my solo
project / new band thing (whatever you want to call it) is now up
and running. The name of this project...is...ASHES dIVIDE. Some of
you may already know this as I have gotten mucho gracious responses
from my myspace page (myspace.com/ashesdivide)
where 1.5 songs are up on now. The video for "The Stone" is also
posted on the website, and the album is in stores now.
The name of the record is Keep Telling Myself It’s Alright.
This is by far, my most proud creation to date. I received a lot of
incredible encouragement and help making this record from Danny
Lohner who co-produced it with me, Johnette Napolitano who co-wrote
and provided vocal production on a few tracks, Paz Lenchantin who
co-wrote a song, Josh Freese who provided the drums we have all come
to love throughout the years (these are some of his finest moments
in my opinion), Matt Skiba who pulled my head out of the sand on a
song, Devo Keenan and Dean Sainz who threw down some last minute
goodness, and from Maynard who believed in me enough to put me on
the map with APC. "The Stone" is now at radio and if you listen to
it and like it, do the unthinkable, call your local station and
request it. If you don’t, the radio programmers assume you think it
sucks and they pull it (which does suck). Or if you want to really
help a brother out, contact Island Def Jam about joining the street
team who have been awesome in spreading the word. Being in APC has
afforded me a head start with ASHES dIVIDE but it will take a lot of
work to get the word out. I just bumped into a few friends of mine
who were APC fans and when I told them about this project they were
like "Wow, what? When did you start that?" ...See, I need your help.
I just hired a live band to take these songs on the road. Our tour
starts in early May in Florida. A few surprise last minute warmup
shows should materialize in Southern California in April. The band
includes Jeff Friedl on drums, Matt McJunkins on bass, and Andy
Gerold on guitar. We started rehearsals this week, and have much to
do to pull off the record live. It is going really well so far.
Lastly, many of you ask about the future of APC. As of right now we
have no concrete plans for APC stuff. Maynard and I have talked a
bit lately about "what if..." but he is currently focused on
Puscifer (his new project which came out a few months ago) and I am
putting all my energy into ASHES dIVIDE for the foreseeable future.

With “eMOTIVe,” A Perfect Circle restore rock ‘n’ roll to its revolutionary roots by throwing a 12-megaton musical bomb in the face of the ruling class. Described by APC’s Maynard James Keenan as “a collection of songs about war, peace, love and greed,” the astonishing set blends all-new original material with a provocative selection of cover versions.
The tracks chosen by Keenan and his longtime collaborator Billy Howerdel bridge three decades of protest songs, spanning an array of genres – hardcore punk and heavy metal, new wave and Delta blues, folk rock and rhythm & blues. Among the insurgent classics reinterpreted on “eMOTIVe” are John Lennon’s “Imagine,” Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” Memphis Minnie’s blues stomper, “When The Levee Breaks” (made famous by Led Zeppelin), Depeche Mode’s “People Are People,” Devo’s “Freedom Of Choice,” Black Flag’s “Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie,” Fear’s “Let’s Have A War,” Joni Mitchell’s “Fiddle And The Drum,” and the Nick Lowe (by way of Elvis Costello) anti-anthem, “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding.” The album kicks off with an explosive take on “Annihilation,” originally recorded by Berkeley aggro-punk legends, Crucifix.
The creation of “eMOTIVe” was spurred by A Perfect Circle’s outrage at current political climate – from the government’s assault on civil liberties to the uncalled-for war in Iraq to the increasing menace of corporate-controlled mass media.
Produced and engineered by APC guitarist Billy Howerdel, and executive produced by vocalist Maynard James Keenan, “eMOTIVe” includes string arrangements by APC founding member Paz Lenchantin, as well as contributions from Nine Inch Nails’ Danny Lohner and Telefon Tel Aviv’s Josh Eustis.

“eMOTIVe” is A Perfect Circle’s third full-length release, following 2000’s RIAA platinum-certified “MER DE NOMS,” and 2003’s gold-certified “THIRTEENTH STEP.” The band came together in 1999, fronted by Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan and his longtime friend, guitarist/producer Billy Howerdel. The two musicians had long discussed a creative partnership, and when circumstances produced an opening in Keenan’s schedule, they set to work, enlisting bassist Paz Lenchantin, guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen (Failure), and ex-Vandals/Guns N’Roses drummer Josh Freese into the fold.
From the start, A Perfect Circle drew ecstatic praise from both fans and the critical establishment.

I saw this quote shortly after posting my latest blog;
"It doesn't matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going." ~ Brian Tracy
I guess it's just another way of saying look ahead and don't look back, but I thought how true it is that it doesn't matter what we have been through, our self-perceived flaws or our so-called failures. We can't do anything about the past but learn from it and move on, hopefully using it as a tool to better discover our greater purpose.

We know that you are in agreement with a tesis from your teacher, Jean-Francois Lyotard, about the humanity entering a new age of history: Postmodernity. In general, what is exactly what characterizes this stage?
Postmodernity is characterized, according to Jean-Francois Lyotard, by the end of the great stories of emancipation for the humanity that were elaborated during modernity, which worked around certain ideals; for example the access to reason-rationality, to criticism and social emancipation.
Think for example in Marxism and the social salvation, -promised somehow in reference to the people- and the access to "some dark forces" (I think now in Nietzche or Freud, that said that as soon as we acceded to them we were going to release).
