The Woman’s Angle (TWA), a non-profit organization, educates, mentors and promotes women directors.
TWA was founded by Atlanta filmmakers Tracy Martin and Bret Wood and began as an informal collective of women looking for a supportive learning environment in which to make and exhibit short films. TWA’s first directing project invited women directors to produce shorts that explored the idea of the “Male Gaze,” and use their films to contradict or comment upon the idea that movies (even women’s films) have traditionally been presented from a male perspective, subtly imposing status quo gender roles upon its characters. Meeting monthly, TWA assisted the women directors in developing a viable script and locating needed cast and crew. Eight women directors completed the project, and TWA screened their film shorts for the public in June 2007 to sell out crowds.
This year, TWA has expanded upon The Male Gaze, converting it into a formal Directing Program that provides more support to women directors at critical stages of development and production.
TWA’s future goals include continuing to build on its Directing Program by bringing in highly-respected film industry professionals to conduct intensive workshops. TWA also hopes to develop a Young Filmmakers Program targeting teenage girls who are interested in exploring directing as a possible future career.
Enjoy a double screening of award winning short documentary, "Miss Lil’s Camp" and the short film, "Opportunity Knocks!"
