“…a talented new artist in a class with other stylistically challenging singer-songwriters such as Peter Gabriel, Joseph Arthur and Perry Blake… potent lyricism, eloquence, and beautiful sublime melodies that reach much deeper than simple pop songs...” - Mark Newman, Progression Magazine
Seattle-based piano man Aaron English is a singer-songwriter, yes. But there is nothing 'singer-songwriter', in the quaint coffeehouse open-mike sense of the term anyway, about his sophisticated, world-beat-influenced sound. These songs are big songs: driven by Aaron's vivid lyrics and deft piano work, but spilling over onto vast canvasses of sound, incorporating arena-rock and jazz-rock stylings, electronics, and traditional musics from around the world into his recordings and live shows.
The Marriage of the Sun and the Moon, the second album, was released in February 2007. Co-produced by Aaron English and long-time collaborator Don Gunn, the album's epic, high-energy sound has prompted comparisons to Peter Gabriel, Sting, and Led Zeppelin.
Aaron's debut album, All the Waters of This World, was released in May 2002. Recorded in his studio in a converted barn in Seattle, the album featured performances by musicians from five continents, supporting a core band of Seattle- and New-York-City-based musicians.
Inbetween album releases, Aaron, with his rock/world-beat ensemble The Aaron English Band, has toured the festival circuit in US and Canada.
Aaron continues to receive critical recognition and awards for his recordings and live show, including:
- Finalist in the 'Best Male Singer-Songwriter Album' and 'Best Electronica Song' categories in the 2004 Just Plain Folks Music Awards.
- Semi-finalist in the 2002 Coca-Cola/American Music Awards New Artist Competition.
- Finalist in Atlantic Records’ Soul City Music Quest in 2003 (the winner toured with Jewel as an opening act on the world tour).
Thank you, Aaron! I found the moss heart in the wood, it lay on the way, I have so thought as you see it. A round stone with moss is covered. One leaf formed from it a heart. No, adds nobody song. If you wanted, allows to inspire you of it....;) I am glad very much that you have noticed the heart! lots of love! Zofia:)
How's things? I've been having a proper listen to your tunes, I'm very impressed, I love the live track / Beatles tribute, very nice indeed.
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get in touch since your last comments on my page, I've got some new tunes on there now, 2 new ones called "Purple Flame & Monochrome" & "Change Sky" hope you like? let me know what you think if you have time.
Wow, I can't wait! I do wish you the best of luck, but I can't see it being any less than amazing. I will keep checking back to see how it's going, and to be able to purchase it when it's done! Peace and Pay It Forward, Christie
Hey man, sorry for the late reply! The live scene here is good in the bigger cities but pretty tight for money if you're playing your own material. We'd love to work in the US, we'll let you know if we work out a way to cross the Atlantic!
Hey Man, your band sound awesome- what a great rhythm section! Thanks or keepng in touch, we're loving your live clips- when are you coming to England??!
Would you do me a favor and take a gander at "It sure looks good to me".. I would like to take that song in a quasi R&B direction and really elaborate on a piano arrangement. If you are so inspired I'd really appreciate your ideas as I'm more a hunt & peck method pianist... =)
If you were here right now I'd kiss you. :) "Marriage" is an album that gets better after the third listen. It's got appeal upon the first listen, but is deep enough to continue giving upon each subsequent journey through. It didn't come out of the CD player but once last week (to listen to Enigma). Peace to the Single Cell!!
