Instruments: Voice, drums, cello, guitars, bass, keyboards, synth, groovebox, e-bow, drum machine, melodica, toy accordian, percussion, mountain bike.
Sounds Like
According to reviews, etc; Broadcast, Cocteau Twins, Low, Stereolab, Yo La Tengo and Bang Bang Machine. 'Dans L'aide...' is "the devil's folk song", apparently.
We like it when people send us messages. Feel free to add us, but it would be nice if you stroke our egos first. It's only polite, and there's a greater chance of us actually accepting your advances. We're slightly old fashioned like that.
The A Forest are Cat, Chris, Eilidh, Ewan, George and Michael who between them play voice, bass, cello, drums, guitar, synth, groovebox, percussion and melodica.
We have played with some lovely bands, made some lovely friends and some of us are even getting married to each oter. Aren't civil parterships great!
Our debut single was a split 7" with Mercury Tilt Switch, released in the UK on September 2004 on Glasgow's Too Many Fireworks records. Our debut album is due for release in the Autumn on Pet Piranha Records. We've mixed it!
The A Forest have been told they sound "twinkly" and "sleepy", and were very pleased to be told that they sound like "Low having sex with Yo La Tengo and giving birth to Broadcast".
QUOTES
"if you like things all twinkly and nice then this is the band for you. They play lovely, stripped-down electronica" NME
"a bittersweet dreamscape of breathy Stereolab romance" The List - Single of the Week
"these guys and girls are like the soundtrack to a dream" Drowned in Sound
"simply a magnificent soundscape...it feels like a long time since a band from Scotland has created something so lovely in this genre" Stayfun
"a gorgeous vocal, stuttering drums, twinkly things, lilting and sad. a band that sticks out a mile from their local contemporaries; music for films and sweet dreams." Blowgun
"vocal lines that Elizabeth Fraser would kill for" Friends Of The Heroes

This is an invite to a one-off hot club in Dundee (normally in Glasgow) that is free by invite only (as it is secretly doubling up as a birthday party of sorts) - just come before 11 and say "mister no legs" at the door to avoid paying.
This is what it is...
PARTAKE IN SOME HOT SPARKLING SHADAZZ, WASHED DOWN WITH A SPOT OF MYSTERY JUICE!

The Hot Club plays a mixture of rock'n'roll, rockabilly, doo-wop, psychobilly, garage, freak, fuzz, psychedelic, and so on.
Sparkling Shadazz are a demented surf band from Glasgow and Spain. Relative newcomers, they recently engulfed the Hey You Get Off My Pavement festival in a howling storm.
Mystery Juice are a sleazy Horror R'n'B and trashobilly outfit from Edinburgh, signed to Fence Records. Think Grinderman/Badseeds meets Uncle John & Whitelock. Sorta.
Hugo Paris is a DJ Based in London, running nights such as Bad to the Bone (rock'n'roll etc), Rattle Shack (disco and early house, chicago etc) and Nice Time (dancehall).
Marquiss de Merchant-o-Menace is also based in London and is in the Phantom Band (chemikal underground recs) and Omnivore Demon. He plays a bunch of far-out stuff.

The 200th concert review has just been posted on the Dead Earnest website (www.btinternet.co.uk/Dundee.htm). I'd just like to thank all the bands, musicians, venue owners, promotors and fans who've been so generous this last 12 months and had so many kind things to say, that, without all of you who I've seen many times to those having a bit of a hiatus, none of what I do would be possible and that, in my opinion, the Dundee Scene remains as the most accomplished, enjoyable and potentially commercial music scene in the UK right now. To all of you who I won't get to see tonight, who may read this now, who may read this nursing one helluva hangover in the morning, thanks for producing/featuring all the amazing music in 2007 and a heartfelt and seriously Happy New Year to all of you - may 2008 take you further up the ladder of success!!
Juliet Kilo would like to thank The A Forest for thinking we are no bad, ken. Juliet Kilo would like to respond to the aforementioned commendation by saying that they think The A Forest are also no bad, Kenneth.
Right, here is the dealeo. We have finally got around to mixing our 'new' EP. And we want you to listen to it waaaay before its released in 2008.
SO! In the next 7 days, we will be putting a different song up on our page. It might not change every day, but in the next 7 days all songs will be up at some point so keep checking back to listen!
Dont be shy to leave us a comment or blast over a message or something.
I'm quite keen to record a live video of the a forest doing a show, preferably somewhere nice like the dundee rep theatre. If we hook a mac pro laptop up to the desk with pro tools we can mix all the tracks afterwards. Two pro cameras would do the job. Interested? I could have it all done within two weeks, a lot quicker than your albums :)
In sharp pangs and dolorous hissings round Enitharmon's loins folding, the globe of our life blood trembles, branching into roots: fibrous writhing, pale and waving before our deathy faces! PSYCHOSEXUAL!
BULLET HELL! at THE HOT CLUB! SAT.27.OCT. NICE'N'SLEAZY. DOORS 11pm.
